My 8th playthrough really highlighted just how many loading screens there are. This wouldn't be a problem if they didn't take so long. Playing this on Nintendo's next gen console will be amazing.

2018

Genuinely one of the prettiest games to exist. The music is top notch, and gameplay is actually pretty good as well. Not sure why the overall rating isn't higher.

I'm hoping the developer's next game focuses on improving the moment to moment gameplay. The water level was the most fun, as it introduced a dash ability which speeds up the movement. If their next game is as beautiful as this, with gameplay on par with other platformers, then it could easily be amongst the all time greatest sidescrollers.

Even if we ignore the fact that this was the first in the series, it's still the most original. It has unique bosses, gameplay mechanics, and music.

The way to unlock secret worlds is also really cool. I hope Nintendo soft reboots the franchise again like they did with this game.

Alright the Hollow Knight community has gotten far too toxic, so I'll lay down some negatives to the game to show that it isn't as perfect as people make it out to be.

- For every great boss, there are 2 'filler' bosses.
- Difficulty progression is dumb. Hornet is the second boss you fight while flukemarm is technically an 'endgame' boss.
- Nothing in this game is original. Abilities are things you'll see in every other metroidvania. Hell even the charm system is from Paper Mario. Having said that, lack of originality isn't always a bad thing.
- You should expect a lot of backtracking + getting lost. Way more than any other metroidvania.
- Many of the areas have similar aesthetics. 4 of which share a dull grey colour.
- DLCs are good but again, they each have way too much filler.

This is still my favourite metroidvania, however almost every other one I've played focuses on quality over quantity. They are fun 90% of the time while hollow knight struggles to even come close to that number.

Dunno what's going on but it's sick. So much variety in gameplay, and there is still much more to come!

Unlocking this at the end of Zero Mission is cool and all... but like... just play Zero Mission.

From an objective standpoint, this may be the best fighting game ever made. Smash itself may not even top this.

I personally love the single player, however that is the only aspect that could be massively improved in other fighting games. Nobody will get close to the amount of characters, stages and incredible polish/balancing that Ultimate has.

Online could be better though.

2016

This is actually quite hard to play after playing Doom Eternal. What used to feel fast paced now feels like a slog in comparison.

Having said that, it's still one of the best first person shooters of all time. Music, graphics, gunplay, level design, and pacing are all perfect.

I'm so happy this turned out good. The developers probably freaked the fuck out when the game got such high reception (causing all of the delays).

The game is shorter than I would want, however it's difficult not to have fun here.

Incredible for it's time - that's all the credit I can give it.

I guess it's fun enough these days but I don't see any reason to play this over any other sidescroller. The controls are really bad these days.

A worthy successor in many ways, however it just barely falls beneath it's predecessor. I'm certain that Supraworld will be the best of both games.

Pros
- I love the set up for the story in this one
- Puzzles are well designed as always
- The combat overhaul is amazing
- New abilities are a welcome addition, after the lack of them in Crash

Cons
- The puzzle design could have gone a little further. Supraland's puzzles incorporated all of it's abilities perfectly
- The world design is just okay. Linearity isn't a bad thing, however it makes the map much less memorable
- 'Locked gates' don't stand out as much, and therefore gaining new abilities isn't quite as satisfying
- 8-20 hour playthrough is absolute cap. I beat the game in 4 hours on a casual playthrough
- I'd love if Supraworld had a few more distinct locations to explore
- Zipping around the world on a jump-pad is way more satisfying than fast travel pipes

I'm not sure if I'd consider this better or worse than Crash, however it's clear that the developers are trying new things, and learning from their mistakes.

So close to perfection. Graphics, performance, music, and level design are all orgasm worthy.

Custom games are slightly lacking, and the single player support could easily be improved.

I could see MK9 being similar to Smash Ultimate (albeit on a smaller scale). Just bring back mission mode from DS and I'll be happy.

This needs for recognition. The artstyle and music alone nearly rival that of games like Ori, and the gameplay loop is just out of this world in terms of uniqueness.

I genuinely don't have any major criticisms with the game; I have many minor nitpicks, but none of them hinder the experience.

I can't wait to see what these devs do next.

Still holds up over 30 years later. The overworld is so sexy.

I still believe that this game should get a remaster. Same graphics/music, but with the controls and widescreen support from Mario Maker.
