Really bad roguelike. You're never well-equipped enough for the bosses and the cover shooter and bullet hell styles don't mesh well together. The only reason this game has the reputation it does is because of the lore and the ridiculously diverse gun pool.

1993

The gunplay has aged well but I'm not fond at all of Doom's obsession with cluttered maze-like maps. Every stage was 4 minutes of shooting and 16 minutes of crawling around looking for a card key or something

the cow meme where he's standing at the shore of the beach saying 'man'

A faster and more exciting alternative to the crappy OG Jurassic Park game, though it's admittedly nothing special otherwise

Kinda on the easy/barebones side but the setpieces and energy perfectly encapsulate the feeling of running through a playable OVA. The soundtrack's killer too but sounds a bit harsh in some tracks.

Came back to this one on my real Genesis when my first run was on emulation, it wasn't AS hard but still too hard for me to want to finish again.

I love a lot of what this game does with its god-tier music and art, but the difficulty bumps are so off-putting and bad. The flash kick having a terrible hitbox makes it very hard to use naturally, and everything past the halfway point is masochistic.

Shame.

hard as hell but the konami code makes it a lot more accessible. even then, i'd say its enemy patterns are very well-designed and identifiable. definitely one of the better-aged pieces of the NES library.

Very similar to Space Harrier 1, though obviously degraded for the weaker hardware. The new music and bosses are cool tho. I wouldn't recommend it that much if you already have a way to play Harrier 1 but it's still pretty fun to play and damn impressive for '88 on a home console

This is the closest a japanese developer has ever gotten to making an amiga game and it's somehow still better than 95% of amiga games

I have no witty remark, this is kino, go play it

Bad art direction aside this is a great Treasure-like run-and-gun with awesome mobility and a really fun parry system

A very strong revival of the EX series that fixes most of the original trilogy's archaic issues, it's not hard to learn and all of the characters feel really fun to play as

Fibbage 3 and Survive The Internet are the highlights. Bracketeering demands a big crowd to really be fun, Civic Doodle is cool but weaker than other drawing games, and Monster Seeking Monster sucks.
