I love almost everything about this game except the combat, which I find nearly unbearable. Characters, writing, dialogue mechanics, setting, atmosphere, and everything else is so good but I couldn't bear with it.
I tried playing this game 3 times but I don't see the appeal. I think it's supposed to be "quirky" or surreal but none of the characters/story/moments/anything make me feel anything. It's just a bunch of weird disjointed things happening with a strange setting and bunch of characters.
Was excited to play this game at first but quickly grew tired of the core gameplay loop. Every time I saw something on the horizon that looked interesting it always resulted in a similar combat encounter or uninteresting NPCs.
Best combat and movement in the entire series, but by far the worst exploration/map design and atmosphere. I play Metroid to get lost, and this game was adamant about making that absolutely impossible at every nonexistent turn.
Very slow. Dialogue also sounds like it was written by a child. I find it impossible to take any of the characters seriously or care about them at all.
Game is not feasibly playable without an external guide. One of the core dungeons is hidden behind burning a random one of a thousand generic bushes scattered across the world. Really?
2D sonic is an inherently flawed formula. Hold right until either you run into something you can't see, or the level plays itself. It's designed in such a way that won't be fun until several playthroughs in.
All-around terrible game. Awful story that makes no sense, random moments that bombard you with bad nonsensical cutscenes whose only value is shock, shallow combat, horribly repetitive hacking minigames, etc
