Of course there is no clear line to what dictates a Metroidvania, but I did my best to keep to a pretty strict definition: specifically 2D side scrollers that follow the IMAGE acronym. I've played other games like Dead Cells or Cave Story that often feel like Metroidvania games but don't quite meet the definition in my opinion.
