A cinematic experience, that I don’t think is very strong, loosely wrapped around a very simplistic and unenjoyabke game.

And I’m done! A cool ending. The endgame isn’t as interesting as it should be and the game’s quest design is never good enough. Fun fights though and a really cool map to be in, as well as a cool actual ending sequence.

This sucks.

Feels like they learnt what worked the best from the first game and designed with that in mind. More open, more built around that openness and from an age where sequels added complexity and depth rather than sanded these off.

Soft locked myself a few times, lots of reloading. But damn is this game awesome. Finished it up and just so satisfied by it.

Very very cool! Lots to get used to at the start and not sure how far I’ll get — very liberal walkthrough use the whole time, for sure.

Yup. This is Diablo. Deceptively not crunchy. Lots of menus that seem to suggest there’s more to it than it is and I’m not sure the open world means much.

I like it, though.

Thought I’d give this an actual go.

It starts really cool. The combat system feels its age, and not as dynamic as they want it to be. It’s still solid turn based RPG fun, though.

I love the still backgrounds, how they make the world feel so much more detailed and interactive. And, again, just a cool start.

Almost made it on my first non tutorial run, then made an error at the end and… it all crumbled. This is great!

Dabbled back in the day but a proper attempt now.

Stylish as hell and feels awesome, so far. Going to put a lot of time into this.

Cool final chapter but the story is marked by missed potential in terms of narrative and gameplay. Been noodling around to wrap up some achievements but a tad underwhelmed by the whole package.

The cinematic storytelling has taken a step up. This feels confident and assured, happy to scene set and build incidental moments. It also feels more narratively engaging and cohesive at this early stage — it also seems like move sets are matching the arc of a character.

I still think the way it intertwines with gameplay is so static. They should make this campaign more of a tutorial for one, and also have special conditions on fights and do something a tad different. The effect is repetitious as you play as a character for five fights then do the same again with a new character. Gameplay is fun because the systems are fun, and it’s nice to get a handle on different folks. There’s just so much more they could do.

Finished! Playing as Alan Wake is kind of annoying but the highs of this are so damn high. Satisfyingly pulpy and always ambitious and interesting. Great video game.

Why can’t I play as a girl?? Strange when you could in in P3 Portable.

This is awesome. Played through the first chapter. Just the kind of ambitious, playful, creative thing that you so rarely see at this scale and with this polish.

The very start is really striking, then is just a pretty corridor but it leads up to an all timer of a title card.

From then on, just brilliant. Takes its time while always being interesting. Evidence board is all on rails, yes, but what a cool way of dealing with exposition. Bends interactivity to narrative purposes very well.

Writing awesome, location awesome. Linear but with room to pole at edges, and to find this rewarding — not just in a collectibles sense.

The TV and radio stuff is amazing. That ‘fuck the government clip’ where a guy plays two brothers… Genuinely amazing.

Fun rush of bosses. But... How much of this game is pushing boxes? Too much, I say. And the bosses towards the end still don't push things in too creative a way. Combat still shines, even if it could do with another layer of complexity at a point -- perhaps more internal variety.

Gets better as it goes. The stuff where you get to be evil is a blast and it tries some stuff. Laying some foundation for the next game with the tag in stuff, but not done well here. Still a very static campaign but I do like the mad story — character stuff lacking and we are with the B roster to an extent (though the A villains).

The first half is playing as people I don’t enjoy playing as… But the back half is great. Endings are a cool touch if too brief in execution.

Really satisfying campaign, dabbled more in the systems also and I like how this plays. Great game.

The reboot was a great retelling and reframing of past narrative. This is the best original work they’ve done — so far. Campaign structure a touch static but still solid and the narrative is bombastically satisfying, with decent character work.

Oh… it’s a tree puncher.

Yup, it’s a gated progression treadmill game.

Even if you haven’t played this, you’ve played this.

World 6, unlocked special world and then beat the final Bowser world. That final stage is AWESOME. Amazing game.
