"Magazine Games", Or Games I Never Got To Play Growing Up

Whether because I had limited funds or because a game was just never in any of the stores I checked, there are some games that for the longest time I only knew about because of magazine coverage (or maybe a commercial). These are games I remember reading about, but never got the chance to experience first-hand. Some I got around to eventually, while others I still haven't found the time for. Maybe one day.

I distinctly remember seeing some pre-G4 video game television show that dedicated a lot of time hyping up Shenmue and its development. My family was a little slow to adopt the latest game systems though by the beginning of the 00s and by the time I was in a position to buy a new console, the DC was dead.

The magazine Boy's Life had a ad for Shadow the Hedgehog. I barely knew who Sonic was but it looked cool as hell. Cause Shadow had a gun, and it was all dark and red. But I never bothered asking cause I was afraid it'd be "too violent", since the parents were pretty strict on what we watched/played.

We obviously read the same magazines growing up. Seeing a lot of games I vaguely remember.

Haha great list, this reminds me of looking through a collection of demo/trailer discs from UK Playstation magazine and some other company that I think my dad had got a ton of them from..

Games like Dark Cloud, Jak and Daxter, Final Fantasy and Herdy Gerdy. Good times!
