Arguably better than the original? Maybe? I'd have to play it again to be sure but this is probably the single greatest fan game ever made.

The gameplay and narrative combine to make a really memorable and soul crushing experience. And the extra content in the definitive edition is... passable.

In it's totality, this game means a lot to me, to my personality, to my childhood, to the content I enjoy. But ultimately I feel the game has lost it's way. Play the Better Than Adventure beta mod for a more cohesive and, frankly, more engaging experience than the game it currently is today.

I wanted this game to be a 5/5. I really REALLY wanted this to be a 5/5. But I just can't do it. The DLC feel is here and it is not good. The best part about BOTW is the exploration, and since the world is (let's be honest here) mostly the same. It feels lesser as a result. They really really tried, but I just can't give it any higher of a score. It kind of left my mind a month after I played it. Which was definitely not the case with BOTW.

That first playthrough man, probably one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. Unfortunately the cost of having a big ol' world to play in is that there's a lot of repeat content to fill it out. Which I understand is basically inevitable if you want the game to come out but, yeah..

I'll rate each route individually. In the order that I played.

Flynn's Route (5/5): You really shouldn't play this first, but this is the most mind melting, dirty descent into madness and I love it to death.

TJ's Route (4/5): I'm not really interested in the scavenger hunt, but the interpersonal stuff and that GOD DAMN ending make this worth playing.

Carl's Route (2/5): Sorry Carl, this is the first route developed and it shows. Really really drags during the whole haunted house sections. And Raven is the worst route exclusive character in the game. Carl's self realization near the end is really good though, so I give it some praise for that.

Leo's Route (5/5): Probably the most heartbreaking route in the game, every character is really well utilized. Also Kudzu is the best route exclusive character in the game, eat shit Raven.

Jenna's Route (5/5): Maybe the best route in the game? I don't know it just really feels like a fulfilling, scary, memorable experience. A fitting route to end this game on.

Too obtuse for it's own good at times, but the 80s after school atmosphere is unique and (somehow) timeless.

Really truly desperately needs a remaster, but aside from technical issues this stands as one of the GOATs. It just has half a star until it gets fixed. It deserves the full five.

Funny Communism game make me sad :(

Probably the closest you can get to a concept executed perfectly. An all timer to be sure.

Really conflicted on this one. Most of it is really solid, but it does get repetitive and everything after Fire Giant feels kind of tough to swallow. In a bad way.

From Software's best game to date. The combat is unmatched, every enemy is interesting to fight. This game really benefits from the lack of RPG elements.

I spit on your interconnected doorways. Better than 1 and 2. The boss average for this one is unmatched.

Desperately needs a remaster, but still an all time classic. Perfectly builds on it's world and setting. My third favorite in the From Software series.

Look, it has it's moments. But the SOTFS edition is notorious for it's added enemy spawns that make the game almost unplayable at points. Play the original over this one. The extra boss is not worth the extra pain.
