All of the historical characters fuck in this game but I definitely don't fuck with the artifical difficulty

Definitely a lot more enjoyable than Virtue's Last Reward due to its achronological approach. Instead of slogging through 20~ hours of branching scenarios to reach all of the locks, you're immediately thrust into the action with short playable Fragments. The player also has a sense of whiplash and complete bewilderment that compliments the story well (and the characters' position within it).

Where this game really falls down is the production value. There was a clear step down in budget between Virtue's Last Reward, resulting in stilted character animations and not a lot of new music, but I don't think that this gets in the way of the story and engaging with the characters nearly as much as people make out.

In terms of the story and characters, it's a mixed bag. Some of the new additions are great (Carlos, Q, Diana) and those returning from past titles are just as good as you remember them (Phi, Sigma, Junpei, Akane). That being said, Mira and Eric are both some of the worst characters I've ever seen in a visual novel/adventure game.

Zero's plan in this final installment is also a little... underwhelming. I won't go into spoilers here, but I can see why so many people came away from ZTD disappointed. I'm honestly not sure that Uchikoshi could've done a better job considering all of the expectations, however.

7/10 places it just above VLR (6/10) and below 999 (8/10) for me.

Gone is the oppressive atmosphere of DR1 in favor of a more open setting. Traversing said setting is like watching paint dry. Some of the characters are about as deep as a puddle and it has possibly one of the worst cases in the series, but...

Komaeda

It'd be neat if 'reverse' detective games where you play as the culprit trying to get away with a crime were more of a thing. For now, this is a fun little indie title.

NieR for the masses, complete with that pillar of modern gaming: the follow quest

Even removing microtranscations didn't take away from the repetitive, copy-and-paste gameplay. A very disappointing follow-up and probably the death of the franchise.

Ravelholm is still terrifying

If this game had no story, it would be perfect

The Kojima equivalent of 'Just shut up and dance'

Raiden got done dirty in MGS4 but this more than makes up for it

You're telling me 'Fuck the Oscars' guy made this?

Certainly not the 'best' or most innovative Souls game, but definitely my favorite to play by far. Fluid movement and strong weapon variety more than make up for the recycled settings and lore (although that's sort of the point?)

The patrician Halo. It proved that the series could be great even without Master Chief, which is probably something that 343 should've taken to heart when making a new trilogy

2004

Peter Molyneux hyped the shit out of this game, but it somehow still managed to live up to expectations with its unique atmosphere and quirky sense of humor
