2020 summary

some highlights, played and watched. roughly chronological

sorry the list starts off with such a boring entry, i got a switch in january
multiplayer hangout game of the year
i sure liked it a whole lot before hand pain led me to kick the habit. have tried to go back a few times but the momentum is gone
shouts out to both the ranged touch marathon stream and my own playthrough that resulted from it
played the whole series in a sitting, this one (part 2) is just my fave
i wanted to use this as a podcast game but i also wanted to listen to the blips and clicks and bloops and whooshes. this did result in one instance of listening to an episode of friends at the table and not realizing that some music that crept in at a key juncture was part of the podcast for like a minute and a half because i assumed it was just a game sound i hadn't done well enough to get until then
i could have done better at trying to experience classics of flash game before the year was out but at least i did play this one after putting it off for years
sure it would crash my browser after i played it for more than a couple minutes but it was also extremely cool and was a great counterpoint to a game i will not name but had just learned about shortly beforehand whose framing of similar environmental themes i found deeply frustrating in its unexamined colonialism
prob the coolest game i probably would not have heard about if not for the big itch bundle. there were some pesky bugs when i played it but those hardly register in my memory compared to what i liked about the game
technically not my first time touching a game of this type but certainly my entry into picross hell
i did not expect this to get approved on igdb tbh but i'm really glad it did esp. b/c i spent a long time working on some cover art i was pleased with
most of the other ifcomp games i played were not that good but admittedly that may be in part because most of the ones i played were ones i knew would be extremely short
still chipping away at this
ok i know i was going overboard with picross games at this point but i was stuck on hold for an hour and i needed a new one not on my phone to play
here i have no excuse, i made it like a day and a half after deleting the previous phone one before downloading another
best bitsy 3d game i've seen so far (not a huge sample size here but still, feels important in terms of going from 'cool stuff could be made with this' to 'this is cool')
