2D Platformers

Nothing here!

Celeste was in all those videos that try to explain why celeste is so good. That's because its real good I think. Excellent precision platforming, movement, emotional arc and heart at its core.
SUUUPER MEAT BOY! Really fun movement, just the right kind of difficulty for me. You die and are back in the game almost instantly. An indie classic for good reason.
What am I supposed to say? Its Super Mario World. A masterclass in design or something like that maybe.

VVVVVV is a platformer where instead of jumping, you flip gravity. Has a metroidvania like world, but still about jumping and dodging at its core. Fun to explore, fun challenges, cute story. Enjoyed it the whole way through
I got all the star coins :)
What if you had a bunch of creative Ideas each level and put them into a Donkey Kong game? I really want to eat that ice cream out that one level
I still can't believe they pulled this off on the SNES. The platforming is a bit unusual at first because of the pre backed 3D models but very solid under the surface
So imagine you are a little guy in giganti abstract pixel levels with a lot of great precision platforming. I really like playing as a little guy. I also appreciated that you can place your own checkpoints. Maybe I'll come back to the Love series one day and master it with fewer deaths and faster times

I can't really tell love and love 2 appart since I played all levels in one go when I played kuso. Check that review pls
This is the PSP release of Little Big Planet. What really shines through with the series is the sheere playfullness it embodies. Platforming is far more forgiving, and less precise, so it doesn't really have the appeal of a pure challenge. Levels are created with a higher level idea in mind first, and some executions might be janky, but always the ideas are always fresh and imaginative
Yeah yeah creative levels, fun platforming and stuff. Sure the rhythm levels are cool. But have you played the soccer mode though?! I will always go for another round

A rhythm game where the hazards move to the beat. 140 Beats Per Minute. Simple, strong aesthetic
Super Castlevania IV I also played using savestates. I just don't have the time for mastering classic snes games. Loved the whip though, and what the game achieved in terms of visual flair is quite impressive to this day
I think I would have enjoyed super mario 3 a lot more if i played it actually being able to see what is next in the level. The zoom in the advance port really hurts. Still, I can see why people love this game, and had some fun despite being absolute ass at it when I was younger
I like the speed of sonic games quite a bit, although I feel it has often struggled integrating that speed with the actual challenges it presents. Nostalgic for Rush because I played it as a kid

Unravel is a beautiful puzzle platformer with a lot of heart, also I'm always a fan of games where you are a little guy.
I like Donkey Kong. Felt a bit underwhelming for me as I played Tropical Freeze first. Still, I like Donkey Kong.
I am not ashamed I played this game using many savestates. If you have the time and nerves probably a great challenge without. For me it was a fun ride for an evening.
So one of those gamedev youtubers made this. This is a rage platformer with that places traps in front of you based on where your going, so you constantly have to watch out and change directions. The difficulty kind of breaks for me at the highest level, my playthrough mostly took place on the second highest. Pretty entertaining with nicely varied levels and engaging story. The AI theme is indeed my Jam
Really fucking punishing retro action platformer. Don't play this in a bad mood.
You know the drill: I only played the mobile port. What can I do I only had that available while sitting in the bus every day. Mega Man X is a classic for good reason, even on a tiny screen with big virtual buttons.
Cool indie platformer that theoretically fits in just one screen. Very short, cool if you like a little speedrunning. Some of the character variants werent my cup of tea though
Only played the mobile port of this one. Unlike Megaman 2 however, the port is stellar and Sonic CD allowed me to make more mistakes. Would still recommend you play this with an actual controller though
Thomas was alone is an indie puzzle platformer that focuses on the story of its various shapes finding each other. No strong feelings on this one
The magnet mechanics are fun for a while, but also really hard on the wrists.
Didn't catch me like Super Meat Boy did. Really hard as well, but I badly missed the momentum.
Okay, this is only so low because I almost exclusively played the campaign levels from nintendo. Don't do that. Why did I do that? Excellent level editor!
Same as Battleblock theater, I can't really appreciate the multiplayer in platforming games. Otherwise still mario quality
Penguin :)
While well polished, Octahedron didn't grab me at all. I could have played through the entire game and felt fine, but there didn't seem to be any good reason to do that
What a weird little game for mario. These childhood memories sit deep, including my frustrations.
Battleblock theater didn't really spark my interest as much, the chaos of multiplayer is not a great fit to platforming in my opinion.
Not really hating on the original Super Mario Bros here, it just doesn't fit well to modern sensibilites. What I mean by that is that the jump feels weird and I don't like it
forgetable
Yes, this is the mobile port of Megaman 2. No, I haven't played the original. No, the controls don't work well on mobile. Still Megaman 2 though
fuck shit fuck fuck ass fuck
This is a physics based 2D platformer for under a dollar on Steam. Servicable, but not good.
