i could say silent hill, this "PS1 inspired horror game" is just the new earthbound inspired rpg
thats true, silent hill added
"temporarily" is generous
also tbh im tired of 3d platformers inspired by rare games so just put banjo kazooie on there. also whats the biggest walking sim cuz that one should be here too. amnesia?

The sheer amount of RPG Maker stuff on steam who fill their description with 'Do you love Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger? THEN YOU'LL LOVE MY ASSET FILLED CASH GRAB'. Its desperate.
fuck it, adding RPG maker
is that really worse than the sheer amount of zero effort unity asset flips that exist on steam
its okay no one plays those
nobody plays 90% of the shitty rpg maker games either
Hah fair enough :D
I'd also put Smash Brothers. Every couple of years it feels like some Indie Dev tries to do a 'INDIE ALL STAR BATTLE' sort of game... that just kinda sucks (see 'Go All Out, 'Bounty Battle' and soon 'Fraymakers').

Oh more.
Binding of Isaac. Rogue Legacy may have some issues but I do feels its at least got some uniqueness to it. Binding of Isaac however seems to have been copied over and over in one form or another.
Also Minecraft and Terraria. Please. No more survival crafting procedurally generated games. Theres already a million and one. You're not going to beat these two. Stahp.

the quirky earthbound inspired indie rpg
No more games for the next couple years I say. I need to catch up!
Smash and Minecraft are good ones, added
Spitin', also RPG maker is already here but Yume Nikki should be added too.
How could I forget yume Nikki, added
I would even go back farther than Rogue Legacy and just say plain 1980-ass Rogue lol
super metroid or metroidvania as a concept
i am so fucking tired of indie metroidvanias, and I'm so tired of indie action platformers getting retrofitted as metroidvanias to pad out the length

true and true, rogue legacy and metroid added
SotN is a better option than Metroid or Super Metroid imo, I mean, when was the last time you've seen an indie metroidvania without RPG mechanics? lol
GOOD point, replaced metroid with sotn
inspired by rpg maker
How about Limbo, responsible for every mental illness-themed puzzle platformer with some horror elements
I vote Doom, too many people out here making first person shooters. Super Mario Bros. as well, can't believe people are really making jumping games still how derivative. Just cancel video games I say.
All videogames are basically just pressing buttons smh
While Silent Hill is here I feel like P.T. specifically generated its own brand of Heavily Inspired Bys. Perhaps understandably so because more actual PT is never actually going to happen but on the other hand……..
I dunno a certain game that inspires these but I'm so tired of seeing "8-bit nes inspired" games, there are some good ones, but give me some more 16-bit and 32-bit inspired stuff like it looks amazing when it's done in the modern day, and there's not enough of them imo
idk if this is a hot take but I'd add LinkToThePast-likes, as in top-down games without guns
@Josh_The_Fourth that also has to be about mental health
It's actually dumb how many souls-like indie games there are. 98% of them aren't even good.
