2015

Man this was a trip. I have read that the enemy encounters keep this game down, to a degree I think that statement rings true, but are they so bad? I don’t think so half the encounters I was genuinely on the edge of my seat. Some of the monsters do not put fear in me but are they bad? Not by a long shot. This game I highly recommend. Also that ending was sooo good.

I most definitely see the appeal, and it is going to stay on my hard drive, but for now I’m not finding it very captivating not a fan of the questing either. Main story is alright and it is fun to interject yourself in the narrative. RPG mechanics are finely tuned. All in all I can see this appealing to people who love grind RPG’s and the MMO like questing, just not for me and I may try it again someday.

Good game with a shitty ending. I really am not a fan with the human emotion they try to convey. The hate Ellie gives to Joel is so unwarranted, a man who saved her, traveled across the country with her, wasn’t emotionally prepared to have her die. All I’m saying is I wish Ellie and the game in general gave more sympathy to Joel. I don’t have the energy to explain but basically good game with a bad ending.

The Last of Us part 1 review. DLC review if you keep reading. If you’re not interested in reading the review the TLDR is game is great ending is poop

You know years ago when I was a dumb teen I thought this game was a masterpiece. By all means it’s a great game the stop and go pacing is something that I needed and was in the mood for. The combat is visceral, no holds barred each encounter feels so cinematic especially against human combatants and to me that’s a 10.

I have never played the second game but I’m aware there is some story flaws (it’s next on my to play list) but I can tell you folks the story didn’t fall apart in the second game it is actually very subtle in this one. To quote Ellie “everyone has either left me or died Joel.” Well Joel chose to stick around and maybe in his mind he wanted to keep that same mentality that all they have is each other and the bond they grew extended into father and daughter territory. In the last 10% of the game a conflict of interest is arose where both characters act so out of pocket it is laughable, you see Joel in the game only ever shot in self defense and murdering a surgeon/Marlene is so off kilter and paints Joel as just this selfish killer with no remorse, if they painted Joel in a light where he was morally grey or unethical then we can talk, but every encounter is out of self defense and to me there’s nothing evil about defending yourself so I see him as a morally good man.

And back on track with Ellie’s quote why would she say that? Then have an emotional response that she did when she awoke from Joel saving her? Like Ellie I thought we were thick as thieves and I wish I would have known I was actually delivering you to die, but Joel didn’t and could not emotionally prepare himself during our journey in the game so I just wanted Joel to be honest with her or Ellie to really reflect on what she said in the fall chapter. Also Ellie saves Joel’s life at the end of the Fall chapter did it cross the writers minds that maybe Joel even feels obligated to save her? Instead we got what we got and it’s left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

The DLC is worth your time and is only an hour and a half. It’s good even more dialogue and story driven than the main game. But who cares you have an hour to kill you can play it in one session totally worth your time.

I will go ahead and just include my review for ME3 then onto the package as a whole.

Mass Effect 3:
The conclusion to one of my favorite game series, for one this was the only one in the series that I didn’t play all the way through as a teen, I’m well aware of the controversy about the original ending to this game and have seen the videos… it’s awful and if it were still the case this would be the only one that would be a 4/5 star instead of a masterpiece. I however never got to experience that mess and instead played the updated ending and was very satisfied with it, there’s not much to review on what has already been said in my ME1 review you get your mass effect formula and a Hollywood script and it’s great 4.5/5.

Onto the package itself, if you’ve never played the series or it’s been a very long time I highly recommend I can see myself not recommending to somebody that has recently got through the series and is still fresh in their mind. 5/5

It’s a good game when you want instant multiplayer action, it’s like a McDonald’s meal honestly. Its only ever launched when friends are online or I need a break from the current game I’m playing.

read my review on the first game also second 5/5 on this account.

This is part of my replay of this series on the new Legendary edition, also WEEWOO!!! First five star since I started this app.

Let’s set the stage here folks, imagine for a second the board gives you the task of designing a game around the most over baked and established genre in almost all mediums, ‘science fiction’ I would shit my pants and have to quit my job tbh, you have to think about what this game is batting against when it was being conceptualized and developed, you have your Star Wars, Halos, Star trek, Alien etc. to name a few. What they did release is nothing short of a masterpiece, I truly did not notice the genius behind this game my first go around years ago when I was a teen, I’m older now and it hit me that this game is probably one of the most ambitious titles I’ve ever played. Truly by far my favorite sci fi setting in any entertainment medium.

Now to the bad. A few planets that are so shit to navigate you for go the extra treasures on them because you don’t want to fight the controls to hopefully climb a virtual mountain. Some of the shooting gallery’s are used over and over again and shines the most in the side quests. Oh and it’s also the first in a series so a lot of jank is forgivable in my eyes.

In conclusion despite its flaws and it being the first game Mass Effect manages to stand out and make a statement to the world that got itself in its day a very good following and a must have back then if you had a 360. (Played on Series X)

Edit I forgot to mention that I regret playing it through on normal it is not a good difficulty in this game I feel like hard is the more optimal experience.

Really solid, shelved because of frustration of getting so far and then dying, also it would probably be a 5 star but I bought it at $70 and I don’t think the game is worth that much with the content it has. That said it’s best to probably pick up under $40 or do the new PSN game service.

This review contains spoilers

It’s sad, only because what started out to be my first 5 star review of this site turned out to be a grating and frustrating experience in the 8 hour mark. Truly the beginning of the game exudes charm and creativity. Headache after headache are what I can describe the later levels (after the milkman level) just frustrating and characters appear almost out of nowhere with zero context as to why they are there. Not nearly enough development of the story to explain how all the kids lost their brains? Like at one moment they were fine, the next oh their brains are gone and it’s night time, I can’t believe there are some that find the Waterloo level even remotely fun. I may return to this again some day maybe when I get into the correct head space or something.

A nostalgic trip into the first game I played on the 360, really good times this one seems it had the largest and most ambitious scope out of the original trilogy. Also do these people sleep? It’s kind of a funny thought when I play a gears of war game.

First DMC game, I broke in my series X with this game. I was impressed all the way through, even though I was sucking ass at combos, I still had a lot of fun. Plan on playing more of this series.

What a good fucking game, admittedly I did rush the last quarter of it because of my itching to play my recently purchased Xbox series X. If you’re anyone that has an interest in history this is a big recommendation from me, education is what I think to be the cornerstone of this game, the codex taught me so much, and that Europeans were a disgusting people. I washed myself in a public troff ffs. I intentionally left some of the map undiscovered and didn’t play any DLC content to warrant a second play through will be back to play this game for sure.

I just can’t get into the combat where it allows almost non existent combat creativity. Also for people saying ‘it’s not a souls game’ why the fuck is it virtually the same as a souls game?? Any time more than TWO enemies engage you it’s as if you are froze and can’t even engage, maybe the argument would stand if it was different but it’s not. There’s a reason I’m shelving this game and it’s just not fun. If you’re idea of fun is this optimal parry bs knock yourself out.

Alright so I wrote this last night very drunk. To elaborate, it’s okay if people like this game it’s just not for me, there’s the argument that ‘it’s not a souls game’ point taken, however isn’t that a little disingenuous? It has bonfires, flasks, item system that’s the same etc. I could go on and with that said to me it’s a step back we have everything from a souls game here however say good bye to build variety, EVERY boss is made to beat in one optimal way and one way only, there’s no options here to tackle these powerful foes and it just feels one note and for that I had to let it ago because every iteration has those options and to me make a better game.

Years ago I got to the end game and had nothing but a ball with it, I shelved it before I beat it. Coming back I don’t know if it’s my state of mind? My mood? Or maybe my taste in games has changed as a whole. After 15 hours I don’t know how anyone can stand for these characters to walk this slow, and the combat is not my taste anymore but if you’re a fan of a good and very articulate RPG and you have 40 hours to kill I would suggest trying it if under $20 or free on whatever platform you have a game pass on.
