I definitely didn't manage this back in the day so thank you, save states.

It looks wonderful on the 3DS screen and it's still one of the greatest games.

I prefer the aesthetic of this to 3rd Strike, especially since it has native widescreen support! Necro sounds weird though.

I bought a giant, crystal Xbox with my nightshift cash for this game. Quivering in the dark a.m. as abuse got hurled at my headset. Didn't enjoy it as much as the first game buy those early Xbox Live days were really somethin'.

I fumbled through this without grace on 360 back in the day. I have bought it again twice since and intent to return to it but never will.

On reflection it was definitely a longer game than I'd like but I was enthralled the entire time. It builds and builds and teaches you how to read enemy patters to the point where you're surprised to recall some challenges giving you trouble before.

No idea why I didn't bother with any of the sequels because this is one of my favourite games. I especially appreciate that the lock-on means I don't have to aim, haha.

This is absolutely spectacular. Braid meets Blade. One of my favourite games of recent years and there's a wealth of modifiers to tinker with after you finish.

The first FromSoftware game I've ever finished and I very much enjoyed it. It feels like an absolutely gargantuan undertaking at first then next time through a short series of familiar hurdles. I might return for a Soul Level 1 run, but it can definitely wait.

Brilliantly designed series of puzzle zooms with a story that's used to build upon and then subvert them. Plus it's relatively short, which is ideal.

I know this is primarily a multiplayer game but I'm not at all into shooters. Despite that I thought the single-player campaign was superb. Full of variety, constant new gameplay mechanics, some visual spectacle and, best of all, pretty short. It's often offensively cheap, too. This series deserved better.

The atmosphere of oppressive solitude is captured perfectly. The peak of the genre in that it feels like a sprawling adventure while being so tightly designed you can zip through in a couple of hours with the right knowledge. Wall jumps and dashing through rubble are very satisfying.

I still adore this. Mario has great momentum and it remains great fun to play at pace. I probably play through it once a month on average (with warps). I am not good enough to speedrun it.

Wasn't a fan of the earlier games but I loved this one. Maybe because I'm an old man but the heft of Max as he slung his body around and struggled to haul himself back up was perfect.

I got far too distracted by the sidequests to get my bearings or make any real progress after a dozen hours. That's a me problem but it also ran terribly on Xbox 360.
