Games I played in 2019

Nothing here!

Pokémon HeartGold Version
Pokémon HeartGold Version
Went on a huge Pokémon binge at the end of 2018. Spent Christmas playing Pokémon White and started Heartgold at the turn of the year. I quickly remembered why I hated this one as a kid, and I think I hate it now more than I did then.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Horizon Zero Dawn
Got it for Christmas 2018, but didn't finish it at the time. I found the menus to be really confusing to navigate and the gameplay really didn't capture me, so I dropped it for about a year.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Spent my Christmas money on this. Was one of the first Switch games I owned, and I logged nearly 200 hours into it over the next few months.
Kingdom Hearts III
Kingdom Hearts III
Pre-ordered, because of course. Couldn't play it for a few weeks unfortunately, as I was caught up with school, but got to it around mid-February, and knocked out the whole thing in a few days.
Pokémon White Version 2
Pokémon White Version 2
Continuing my Pokémon binge, and began this one at the start of spring break. Fun story: when I started the game for the first time, the previous save file had a lv. 100 shiny kyogre and rayguaza (but no groudon for some reason), and I immediately deleted it. Still not sure if that was a smart idea or not.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Picked this up alongside Sonic Mania. Don't really know why; maybe it was on sale or maybe I just had some extra money?
Sonic Mania
Sonic Mania
Bought it the same day as Mario + Rabbids for some reason. Spend the last half of spring semester playing these two.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Traded it in on my birthday when I got Mortal Kombat 11 despite not wanting it, and spent many a bus ride 100%ing it. Weird how I did that even though I don't like the game.
Pokémon Platinum Version
Pokémon Platinum Version
My favorite game of all time, although it had been years since I played it. Bought it again as a graduation gift for myself and beat it for the first time in my life. Just as good as I remember (and I pretty much remember everything; I played this game blindfolded once).
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VI
Dedicated the summer to RPGs and decided to start with this one.
NieR: Automata
NieR: Automata
After dropping Final Fantasy VI I went to this game. I was going to be in Spain for 7 weeks that summer, so I was doing my best to finish it before leaving. I did, thankfully, and it was great despite the fact that I rushed through it. Definitely going to play this game again someday and really dig into it the next time I do, because it's now one of my favorites and it deserves more of my time and respect.
Luigi's Mansion
Luigi's Mansion
Despite the fact that I was cramming to finish Nier: Automata before I left for Spain that summer, my best friend and I decided to have me try Luigi's Mansion for the first time. Really fun, and I like the creativity of the mansion. Unfortunately my friend is an idiot and didn't bring a memory card. I managed to get to the final boss and bit the dust; bye-bye save file!
Dark Souls: Remastered
Dark Souls: Remastered
Another birthday present for me like Tropical Freeze, but I ended up restarting the game while I was in Spain. Probably because I already had so many games to play at the time on top of my last semester of high school.
Mother 3
Mother 3
My best friend gave me the fan translation over Spring Break, even though I was starting White 2. Brought it with me to Spain and played it there. Really need to give it another shot at some point, since I wasn't the biggest fan. Hopefully a second play through will make me appreciate it more.
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Trigger
Bought it right before leaving for Spain, and it's pretty much the same deal as Mother 3, a game I need to replay and hopefully get a better appreciation for on a second go.
Shadow of the Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus
Now that my humungous RPG-filled summer was over, I decided to return to this one. I got it for Christmas 2018 and only sporadically played it since then. I was so jet-lagged after coming home from Spain that I woke up at 2 in the morning and played the last half of the game until the sun came up.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations
Low-key don't remember when I played this one. Probably since I played the mobile version and I remember the timing of my console experiences more. Still, pretty sure I played this between Spain and starting college.
Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley
September was pretty much a free month. I got home from Spain at the beginning of the month, and school didn't start until the end of the month, and I didn't want to work at Old Navy again for just a few weeks (or at all really). After my RPG summer, I decided that fall quarter would be dedicated to indie games, and I started with this one. It stole my life away. I think I put 30 hours into it in one week. Unfortunately I dropped it when school started, but I started a new file over Christmas break and fell in love with it all over again.
Ori and the Blind Forest
Ori and the Blind Forest
I think this was the second indie I played since I'm pretty sure I picked up the definitive edition on switch when it released in late September. Really glad it was short, cause I wasn't a fan. Definitely my least favorite game I played that quarter.
Undertale
Undertale
Spend most of October on this one. My first playthrough was a positive experience, but playing the game a second time blew my mind and made it one of my favorite games of all time. I'm really glad I avoided spoilers for as long as I did, because this was truly incredible, and one of the only games that has ever lived up to the hype.
Enter the Gungeon
Enter the Gungeon
Had a weird history with this one. I like to play all my indie games on Steam, but for some reason my controller wouldn't pair with this game, even though it worked with other games. So I refunded it and got it on Switch instead. Have only put 10-15 hours into it; I guess it's just hard for rogue-likes to hook me. Still really enjoyed it and I hope to play it more.
Luigi's Mansion 3
Luigi's Mansion 3
Playing the first game when I did was really cool, because now I was ready to skip dark moon and go straight to this one. I tried walking to this Fred Meyer near me to pick it up two days in a row; the first day they wouldn't sell it to me because it was a day early, and the second day they were sold out :( but I got it at a different store so it was all good. Actually, I think I got it a week late; I don't even remember how I got it.
Celeste
Celeste
Spent November on this. Nothing much to say I guess. Love it, one of the most rewarding games to play for its challenge, and a great example of video games as art.
A Hat in Time
A Hat in Time
Picked up the physical copy for Switch in December. Tried playing it on Steam and it literally crashed my Mac when I opened it for the first time (Side note: don't play it on Switch, it doesn't perform well and the DLC is nearly unplayable).
Pokémon Y
Pokémon Y
My roommate sold me Pokémon Y and A Link Between Worlds for $20. He also sold me his TV for $25. He's a sucker. ANYWAY, I borrowed my friend's 3DS over Christmas break, and it only took me a few hours to remember why this was the most disappointing Pokémon game I played as a kid.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Borrowed a copy from my friend and remembered why I love this game. It was my first Zelda, and while it's actually my second LEAST favorite game in the series, it holds up remarkably well. Kind of mind blowing to think that this is so good and it was Nintendo's first try.
Sonic Colors
Sonic Colors
Another childhood classic I replayed over Christmas break. My best friend knew I was looking for a copy with the original case, so he bought one for me with one of the crappy gamestop cases. <3 him though. Still holds up btw.
Hyper Light Drifter
Hyper Light Drifter
My final indie game of my indie binge. Played it over break and loved it. Another game I want to replay and hopefully love even more when I do.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Exchanged Diablo 3 for this the day after Christmas. Don't know if that was a good move or not, but this is now one of my favorite games of all time. I was completely hooked, probably even more than Stardew Valley. Great way to end off the year. Fun story: when I exchanged this I had an extra $60 and thought about getting Astral Chain too, but knew I needed gas, so I got gas which came to exactly $60. A few hours later my dad asked for my keys and said he was going to go fill up my car for me.
Super Metroid
Super Metroid
Used my one week free trial of Switch online to play Smash with my best friend and decided to try this one out as well, hoping that it would hold up better than other SNES games like FFVI and ALttP. I ended up hating it even more than those two. Horrible way to end off the year.
