A great giggle in under 10 mins

This game is a breeze to play, but lack of challenge doesnt keep it from being consistently engaging. This game is so fun, so creative, so unique and charming! Playing this game gives you the feeling of pjs and the gamecube on a saturday morning. The dynamic colors and great camera (really a stand-out in the 3D platforming genre) are just pure fucking bliss as youre bouncing around, and each world has personality that makes it a joy to explore.

Its like Mario Galaxy but you dont have to kiss the feet of Brand.
Really funny too! Ill never get over that bit with the crows and internet security lol

Another one of those games which is gorgeously realized but the gameplay is too boring to draw me in.
Game play doesnt have to be exciting- my favorite game is This War of Mine! However it does have to be engaging, for me.

Pure fuckin dopamine screaming through my carpal tunnel

Sad to report that this didnt live up to the hype that Mark of the Ninja gave me

Very sorry, did not finish because I was missing a silver key in the stone temple tower and I had the boss key in my cursed hands and could not progress further without restarting the whole dungeon and I AM TIRED OF THIS

But up until about this point, I really liked the game. I found I had to rely on a walkthrough to know at what moment specific things needed to happen or appear etc in order to progress or get certain masks. This was fun at first but became very grating later on.

Really cool concept though. I loved going to areas Id "fixed" before only to see them in ruins again. Conceptually, I think this game really nails it. I am just so fucking tired of looking at my phone and scrolling through half a dozen walkthroughs to solve an issue or figure out where to go next. I checked a walkthrough for Ocarina maybe 2 times total, but had it saved on my phone for this one.

So yeah
Im quitting now before this sours the whole game. 80% of it was very cool and fun. But every chapter that passed left me more and more tired of having to look up walkthroughs lol

Sublime
Absolutely sublime
The movement in this game is so uniquely smooth, pleasing, and exciting! Just swingin around! This as well as the satisfying piecing of stuff together with your webs (I dont know if Id call it a puzzle game so much as it is a light engineering game?) is honestly a match made in heaven, and the visuals are so delightful too! Thats what this is- delight. Pure delight.

The only reason it isnt 5 stars for me is because I found that the ending is really abrupt and I wouldve liked more of a challenge in general, but particularly in the end bit.

This being said, its ease of play is part of what makes it flow so well.

Highly recommend to just about anyone who wants to have fun

God, isnt it amazing that videogames can be fun like this? What a time to be alive, even on this world on fire ✌️

Cool concept and it looks great! I just wish the minigames didnt get old so fast for me. I wish there were a greater variety of them I guess. I cant pinpoint exactly why "Papers Please" had more staying power for me, considering the great writing both of these games have and similar gameplay, but yeah. I think I got about 80% through the main plot of this game. It was good! But I cant get myself to play the rest

Stunningly creative and gleefully fun the entire time. Every new set piece and ability/ weapon introduced is engaging and exciting, and because it lasts only for that specific space or level, you get to play around with so many ideas and fun stuff and then drop it for something new and novel. In this way it really felt like the play of a child. I loved playing this. I loved discovering things that appeared to just be there for fun. I loved being a pirate, then dinosaur, then rock star. I loved killing wasps with flammable goop.
Most of all, I loved laughing and cheering and solving puzzles with my husband. I love the triumph of pulling through when we are doing a boss fight together and one of us had died.
Sure, its a little cheezy and the animated humans are unfortunate, but hell! Im here to have fun baby! Im here to have fun, and this game embraces this goal and the philosophy of play like I havent seen since maybe the old lego games?

SUBLIME

Holy shit, video games can be this joyful and fun while still engaging with an emotionally rich and at times genuinely devastating story?! Every new mechanic, every new scene and color and personality and exhilarating boss fight in this....metrovania coloring book (?) just rocked my socks off. Im in love. Im in love!

Played it for the first time in 2023, Im 29 years old, and with not an ounce of nostalgia present I can tell you that this game absolutely slaps and has phenomenal mood and atmosphere. I will never forget some sequences in this game, and Im surprised how well it plays! Mario 64 drove me kind of insane but this game still plays like a dream!

I had fun with this game, but its also kind of the worst version of one of my favorite video game genres. A platformer where you frequently lose complete control of the character due to olive oil in shoes, slippery walls, terrible camera, and dying due to falling in ti holes you literally cant see or running in to walls you literally cant see...its hell. Its absolute hell. That final bowser fight is a great example of this. If you run away from him, the camera does not follow you. Your depth perception turns in to ravioli. Biwser shoots out a hundred little fires you cant run from while you spin him, and if they touch you youll suddenly let go and spin out of control and thats it forever.

The worst thing is when you get an air gust or something that advertises itself as controled and dependable, but then it spits you out directly in to death or to an enemy that cannot be dodged and throws you to death sand.

The controls and mechanics of this game are not reliable. And this makes it hell.

I love skill based difficulty. I love dying over and over because you arent good enough, you dont have the timing down, you havent controlled your guy perfectly yet. I love dying to a hard boss over and over. I love the consequences of my not having enough skill.
But so much of this particular game is dying, failing, and otherwise losing because of random chance or camera issues etc. It isnt that you dont have skill, its that mario is cursed. This too is hell.

But all of this...it also makes it fucking hilarious

So I enjoyed it
I laughed so much
Almost as much as I swore and groaned.

But Im never playing this again

What I love about this game, in comparison to Civ, is that oftentimes strategy has to be very long term and contingent on certain heirs and succession coming to fruition for both your civilization and others. You cannot switch tracks so easily, and there are a finite number of city sites available which inspires conflict.

However, I dont love how few ways to win there are. Realistically, there are just 3 ways to win and two of them are so intertwined with each other that there may as well just be two ways. Ambition victories seem very challenging and sometimes up to chance, so honestly I end up going for a points victory over and over again. The points victory can be hypothetically achieved without war, but you'd need to have a ton of cities and wonders built right off the bat. Unlike Civilization, virtually all victories here will be accomplished by stealing other big cities and wonders via war, which isnt a bad thing and certainly is fun on a strategy level, its just got less variety than its predecessor.

Where Civilization has religion as a means to a victory, Old World has it as a means to diplomacy. I actually love this change, I think religion in Civ ends up coming down to just spamming missionaries. I like that here, it evolves and is used strategically to boost diplomacy between nations and the opinion others in your families have of each other and you (the leader).

So mostly I love Old World. I love the new strategy elements, I love the unique art style and the potential for story and dramatic lineages, I love the titles and that being a dog owner makes other fellow dog owners fall in love with you more easily lol. I just wish there were one more path to victory I suppose.

Highly enjoyable meat and potatoes video game!

Everything everyone says about the combat is true.
Its a beautiful game, very charming, and the world is engaging and fun to explore.
But the combat, jesus lord. It truly does break the game. Even when it isnt difficult, it is a pain in the ass. The weapons are horrible, the physics are bad and unintuitive, just awful all around. Would have been a much better game with either turn based combat or nothing at all
