some game soundtracks

lists that don't contain persona 5

i value funk over most things on earth
one of my favs: cosmic eternity - believe in yourself
i love how this one constantly sounds like it is trying to escape from the confines of a sound chip. if final fantasy vi is a sistine chapel painted in crayon then this is DOOM (1993) programmed on a pregnancy test
one of my favs: the poets I
excessively and extremely itself. encompasses 500 genres and still sounds like something specific
some of my favs: battle against a machine, snowman, the place
i value groove more than most things on earth
one of my favs: angel island zone act 2
starting this game and hearing that stage one track is indescribable
feels like a boring choice in a series as varied and truly inspired and focused on its music as final fantasy but a few days ago i realized that some of its tiniest little quirks and instrumental micro-motifs make my brain activate more than 90% of this shit. a gloom and grime that sounds equal parts melancholic and urban that manages to shift over such a wide variety of genres and yeah this is like my fav. game. lol
one of my favs: flowers blooming in the church
already fantastic but if you let me count the arrange album it's like top 3 on this list. way too atmospheric, way too emotive
one of my favs: jazzy nyc underground edit
no video game has had a soundtrack as human as this one, in terms of emotion or quantity
some of my favs: spoon jam 2 md, warp wet woods
gamers know that sonic cd has 2 good soundtracks but do they know about the sf3 3. do they know that sharp eyes is a different song each time and it's a 10/10 each time
i didn't finish this game because i paused it to listen to the soundtrack on youtube
one of my favs: naked glow
the most i've ever felt my own movement punctuated by the atmosphere set by its music
one of my favs: snowland
actualizing the ideal image of myself in a rly sexy suit. v sophisticated
one of my favs: ogre
a period piece. please don't talk about hideki naganuma like he's the only part of this
some of my favs: mischievous boy, improvise
the genuinely creative drum beats on its guitars make it sound like the song wants to unhinge from itself. the most a pre-recorded game soundtrack has ever sounded like a band improv-ing to me
one of my favs: within earshot
arguably not close to the best soundtrack in this series but definitely has my favourite melodies. always thought this felt like it must've been fully formed in its composers head as a sort of 80s acoustic pop kinda mood; don't think i've ever heard a remix that captures the amount it leaves me imagining when i listen to the original tracks
one of my favs: national park
the soundtrack that made me care about video games
one of my favs: opening
engages with sample culture in a way that feels genuinely unique. video game soundtracks usually don't have the creative liberty or the cash to be this unique!! can't stop appreciating it and finding love for evergrace is next
one of my favs: chapter ii ~ in the sky
yoko shimomura going nuts on the piano for 2 hours is good. playing this rn and i know i'm gonna be crying to it in like 6 months
one of my favs: organization xiii
good music can make you cry and good music can make you feel happy and good music can also make you think about someone else's heart problems. they got emotional classical music in this and they got samba music in this and they got a pirated version of the batman theme
one of my favs: phantasmagoria
i dunno how seriously this fits into the puzzle, but it's one of those weird spinoff games that clearly had laid back enough direction they just kinda let the composer bang out some extraordinarily regular tunes. youtube video ass midi dance music but i like it :3
one of my favs: waterfall colosseum
kinda inseparable from the context of the impact it had on my young psyche but also layered and filled with moods and tones to a kind of deranged extent. sounds like adventure and sounds like loss and gain, sounds like a pool of influences from a dozen countries. sounds like bringing a world to life
some of my favs: crystal cave, barren valley, hidden highland
walks a fine line between playful and urban while always lowkey, successfully sold me on a tone of passerby in casual clothes revealing their true selves in the dead of night
some of my favs: encount, troublesome visitor
full speed ahead is peak video game music. there is no further discussion. utterly gorgeous strings and composition and moods and style variety and everyone who worked on it is a genius. a genius in the same way they talk about fashion designers in magazines. finesse etc
fanservice to people who read the credits of video games
one of my favs: opening (video games are real)
sometimes i think about how b2 boss theme uses bell chimes and reverbed guitars on the same track. feels a little cliche but the musical creativity and viscerality of its production is kind of in a league of its own in the world of video game soundtracks
all the battle themes smell like oil pits and 2000s anime forums but the atmospheric tracks make me want to romanticize being alive
one of my favs: sea of clouds
kinda gamer music-y so i consider this more of a light shout out, but when i played this i remember feeling impressed that it was one of the first game soundtracks i heard that felt sincerely tapped into the modern cultural zeitgeist. p cool
i bought this game after seeing the composer worked on pmd2 lol. the investigation tracks play in my head all the time still
one of my favs: psyncin' in the main 2
i thought this game was total trash but it ended up on my spotify yearly so it's obligated to be here
one of my favs: rigged game
