Stop Wasting Time

Games where you have to do X amounts of stuff in due time, or else you're fucked.
Time Limit = Time's always running
Event Based = Time only runs after certain actions are done
Games that work on "runs", such as roguelikes, don't count as you can always just restart it if things go south.

If you’re putting all the WOTS games, you can also put Atelier Totori, Meruru, Ayesha, and Escha & Logy. Those are the only ones I know of with a hard time limit of varying strictness, all the other Atelier games have none besides minor sidequests.

I’d also add:
- Crazy Taxi
- Analogue: A Hate Story (timer starts after reading a set number of files)
- Shenmue games

stuff that works on a "run" system DO NOT COUNT because you can always just start over and they are made for you to have multiple runs. I'm looking for stuff that makes you feel tense with it (you miss them and the game goes on/you have a certain time to do stuff to progress in the story)
Examples of that: warioware, crazy taxi, half minute hero, 60 seconds, simpsons road rage, dead cells

minit is a run based game and its on here tho

well, not anymore, thanks

moon and majora's mask are pretty weak entries for this list as both handle their time limits in such a way that you not only have infinite opportunities to make up for any "lost" time but you also just get a game over and a reloaded save if you accidentally (somehow) hit your time limits in either one. majora's mask only has a hard time limit in the first cycle before you can reset time infinitely for the rest of the game, and moon never does as far as i know

D (the kenji eno game)

you could pretty much just go back a save and start again for most of these games, the point is not that that once you missed something its gone forever, the point is that if you fucked up with your time management, you'd have to do stuff again.

also some games are made in mind that you'll have to do it again, like with dragon quarter, twelve minutes and outer wilds
I think Overboard! applies to thix

Decided to specify how does time flow in games to avoid seeing comments about persona.

wario land 4 has an event based time limit every level

define a 'run game'

Thanks for clarifying your definition.

Now that I think about it, Dragon Star Varnir has a very strange sort of timer. There are these little witch sisters that you periodically have to venture back to base to feed dragon parts to or else they go insane. Thing is, feeding them adds to this meter that, if filled, turns them into a dragon, and there is no way to decrease this meter. If either of these things happen, you’re screwed out of the true ending and need to replay the game to try again. In essence, this means there’s a hard limit on how many times you can feed the girls in a single playthrough, enforcing a time limit without directly stating it.

Saying "run" games is more of a feel than anything but I feel like a good way to describe would be games that incentivise multiple mini playthroughs with different maps/builds/strategies with a lack of a definitive main mode of sorts, like the ones described before.

I had no idea Dragon Star Varnir existed but im interested now, thanks

is Rorona here a stand-in for most of the Atelier series?

That's the only one I can vouch for, are there other ones from the series similar with time limits?

Yes, most Atelier games feature time limits until a certain point (they got rid of them recently). The ones I know have them are:

Atelier Marie
Atelier Elie
Atelier Lilie
Atelier Viorate
Atelier Totori
Atelier Meruru
Atelier Ayesha
Atelier Escha & Logy
Atelier Firis
Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists

These are all Time Limit games.

Also Kenka Bancho 1 is listed, but Kenka Bancho 2 and Kenka Bancho 3 (localized as Badass Rumble) also have Time Limit. I think 4 and 5 have Event Based limits, but I never really played them much.

Dead Rising 3 also has a time limit like Dead Rising 1 and 2. It's just extremely lenient, but it exists. Also Dead Rising 2: Off The Record is just like DR2, if you wanna include every single game.

alright thanks dude!

I'm guessing something like The friends of Ringo Ishikawa also counts. Never finished it personally but I'm pretty sure the ending trigger is dependant on the in-game calendar (could be wrong)

I've played it, the game never ends, it just takes longer if you miss deadlines
