Fleeting Dreamcore
games with a distinctly dreamlike feel to them paired with an undercurrent of melancholy that comes from the ending of the dream. does not actually have to be literally set in dreams to count. please suggest examples if you have any because I love this shit

discussed to death but still hits when you get there
a lot of this game visually deals with the unconscious projected onto the real in ways that are very deliberate and work incredibly well
the goat before the goat
the pop-utopia futuria of much of the settings of this game, seen in other places like the moon kingdom in klonoa, is exactly the vibe here
1 and 2, less so the sequels which move away from this vibe a bit imo
the goat
haven't played this in over a decade but i remember this had the vibe
much less overtly surreal than other games on this list but all the stuff with Zanarkand is absolutely this
"Is any of this for real, or not?"

Superliminal is probably the most literal interpretation this criteria
Can't believe it took me this long to remember them: Deltarune Chapter 1 and Transistor.
I think Fable 2 fits this criteria, maybe? Maybe that's just me, tho
I think Eternal Sonata would fit this
oneshot, soup 0.9, space funeral, moon, kid a mnesia, rez
Drawn to Life The Next Chapter
amazing list. dark souls ii?
Zone of the Enders? I might be putting too much stock in a quick mech action game having night skies, an ethereal main theme song and an anticlimactic ending.
