helpful little tips from me. mwah

Here are some little tips from various games that can be good/fun to know, if you want that. I'll try to keep them as spoiler-free as i can, but there will naturally be a few spoilers here & there on a list like this, so keep that in mind!

Hyper Light Drifter
Hyper Light Drifter
tiny square marks on the ground indicate that there's a secret area nearby. also the western boss can destroy his crystalized soldiers if you bait him into it
Persona 3 FES
Persona 3 FES
- The new FES intro is packed to the brim with spoilers, beware

- DON'T go to Tartarus on 11/21, you'll miss an important cutscene

- team tactics are your friend, use them!

- the arcade gives you more points in stats than most other things do. go to the arcade in the evening (if you can afford it). First row improves personal stats (charm/intelligence/courage), second row improves your currently equipped persona's stats

- also you can check your friends' exam scores on the score board. It doesn't give you anything, i just think it's fun
Persona 4 Golden
Persona 4 Golden
- P4G is a minefield when it comes to missable story stuff (which is what i'll concentrate on in my tips). Keep several different saves just in case!

- Rank up the Jester SL as much as you can, as soon as you can. After a while the SL won't be able to rank up for a while but that's okay! I'd recommend leveling up Hierophant & Justice when you can too, but it's not AS urgent (unless you play vanilla P4)

- There's optional dungeon and story content by completing the Aeon social link before the end of the year

- (vague ending spoilers) When you're done with it all.... don't return home when the game asks you to! Not even when it asks you again. "There's something missing..."
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VI
- At a certain point (you'll know when), if you wait for Shadow, he'll show up

- this game has a lot of missable little banters, items & scenes, too many to mention here, but there are quite a few guides on how to get them. Personally i dont care for items but the scenes can be nice to see as they give more character insight

- you can feed a guy fish, but i think the story is better if you fail at feeding him fish (this sounds weird out of context)
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy IX
This game has SO many little missable things that i wouldn't even recommend going after them all, at least not until your second playthrough. It becomes way too tiresome, let your first experience be free from worry over missed sidequests, items and such.
Nonetheless, here are a FEW tips:

- keep up with mognet & deliver letters, because it's fun and interesting. This is pretty easy if you make sure to talk to every moogle you meet about mognet. But sometimes, to get a letter, you have to talk to them about it twice! They're tricky like that

- Play chocobo hot & cold. It might seem like a meaningless minigame that you try once and never touch again. But when you get into it. Then you will Realize. (this is personal bias because i love chocobo hot & cold. but please give it a few tries!)

- Return to Madain Sari with Dagger & Eiko at Disc 4, talk to a character, leave & return without Dagger and you get some closure for a character :) And maybe you'll even find a new mystery to solve...?

- during a certain tournament in Treno (not Lindblum), go find Vivi in town and bring him to Quan's Dwelling for a backstory scene. This can only be done during this moment, and you have to exit Treno to get to Quan's Dwelling (it's near Treno on the world map) but don't worry, the tournament will continue when you return.
After a certain event in Disc 3 (involving Dagger, Eiko and a city), return to Quale's Dwelling with Vivi & Quina for another fun scene!

- The ATE cutscene system is weird. Use it as soon as you see the flashing ATE message, but sometimes they disappear if you go the "wrong" way, or, if there are multiple ones at once, you pick one certain ATE scene before another. I don't know why. This is not a tip, I just want you to be prepared. You can always look at the ones you missed on YT later!

LASTLY some areas become inaccesible at the start of Disc 4! So make sure you've done what you want to do by the end of Disc 3.

Sorry for so many tips. But seriously don't worry if you miss anything in this game (you will, and thats okay)
Silent Hill
Silent Hill
- A whole bunch of the stores, buildings, and sometimes even vehicles in town can be entered, even when there's no story related content there. There are often little goodies there. Don't be afraid to explore the town even if there are flying monsters out to get you!

- Enemies in big open areas = run away! Enemies in small, closed spaces = fight!
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 2
[Big Knife Guy] will go away after a certain period of time, so you don't have to waste all your bullets on him. Shooting him repeatedly will make him leave earlier, though
Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley
this might be silly but don't stress out..... take it at your own pace..... nothing is missable or lost forever. you won't get thrown out of the town if you don't do well enough, like in harvest moon. if you want to ONLY do farming/mining/fishing/whatever that's fine too!

also put lewis' "purple shorts" on display at the autumn faire for a funny scene. you might lose the competition though (i can't remember if it reduces your points) so be prepared for that
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- If you're doing the Black Eagles route, make a separate save file at the start of Chapter 11 (before talking to anyone in the monastery). You can use that extra file later to play another route and you won't have to play through all 11 chapters again to reach it (black eagles is the only house where this happens, so don't worry about it during your Blue Lions & Golden Deer playthroughs)

- Rhea's support convos locks out EARLY so you gotta act fast if you want all the support convo ranks with her. Ask her out for tea and give her gifts and such to speed it up
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
- Returning to towns you've been to before can give you new characters or sidequests!

- It's not required or anything, but Faye's a great cleric. She, unlike Silque, gets Psychic and also Rescue. It takes a long time before you get anyone else in Alm's party with Psychic!
Mother
Mother
- Earthbound Beginnings, aka the official english release of Mother, is fun (it has some of my favourite lines) but the fan translation mod made for the Mother 1+2 GBA rom has a much more accurate translation and a ring that gives you more EXP and fewer random encounters (which is helpful but can lead to overleveling, so take it off sometimes if you want the game to stay somewhat challenging)

- If you USE bread instead of eating it, you'll set up a warp point! You can then use the Crumbs to warp back to where you used the Bread.
EarthBound
EarthBound
- The Casey Bat, while strong, is very inaccurate

- you can stop your health from rolling down if you either heal or end the battle while it's rolling

- don't be afraid of using Paula's Pray command as a last resort if you're about to get a game over, it might save you!! ... if you're lucky
Octopath Traveler
Octopath Traveler
- The characters have banter during the story but it's missable! You need to have certain party members present at different points during the chapters. I'd recommend looking up a spoiler-free banter guide (can be easily found with a search)!

- In battle, especially against bosses, you want to break the enemy at the START of a new turn. The enemy is only broken for 2 turns , and if you break a boss right at the end of a turn, you practically only get one turn to unload your attacks at the broken boss. If you use whoever is out first to break the boss at the START of a turn, the rest of your party gets that turn AND the next to set up/unload attacks. You don't always want to break an enemy as soon as you can! Timing is key! The turn order at the top of the battle screen is your friend!

- Only Therion can open purple chests.

- Alfyn's Chapter 3 boss is much harder than the level recommendation indicates, beware
Octopath Traveler II
Octopath Traveler II
Pretty much the same tips as Octopath 1, especially with the timing of Breaks, but the party banter is automatically recorded in your journal now and you can watch it at any time, even if you didn't have the right party members with you! :)
Also don't be intimidated by the warning message about the "2 chapters" thing if you want to start as Osvald, it doesn't really matter.

Also there's a hidden ladder in the Ku palace that you can climb down as soon as during Hikari's chapter 1. Pretend I put that ladder there for you.
Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus
Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus
If you see any bottles lying around, there is a secret area nearby! This is consistent through the entire game except for the very first screen, where there are no bottles but a secret area if you press down behind the bag of bones
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
Take Marin to the Trendy Game and let her play, trust me (this also works in the original Link's Awakening)
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
when you get down to hyrule please please do the first mainline quests until you get the paraglider. The paraglider isn't given automatically to you before the world opens up so make sure to grab it before running off. I know you want to go explore and ignore the main story and so do i but please at least wait until you get the paraglider

.... unless you want to explore WITHOUT the paraglider, which i also respect
Space Funeral
Space Funeral
Use the Mystery command more often than just once, it's funny
Shadow of the Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus
Eating fruit increases your max health, eating lizards increases your max stamina
Off
Off
Return to purified areas for a surprise :)
RollerCoaster Tycoon
RollerCoaster Tycoon
- Set umbrella prices to $20 right at the start and you'll make bank when it eventually rains

- You can give staff members certain areas to patrol! If you, for example, have a road where lots of people throw up, you can set a janitor to patrol that one particular area. It's handy!
Transistor
Transistor
Use different abilities in different slots to gather lore about the person you got the ability from!
Rain World
Rain World
If you throw a spear into a wall and it gets stuck, you can climb the spear to gain higher ground. Perfect to access areas that are juuuust a bit too high to reach with a jump alone.
Omori
Omori
There's a graveyard through the back doors of the church
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep
Melding commands goes a long way in this game! Don't dismiss it as just an optional side activity, this is THE way you get new skills in this game. You can use a melding guide, if you think it's tedious, but honestly just keep on melding commands when you've maxed them together with a variety of crystals and you should be fine! Have fun, meld commands & be urself

Also this is just my personal (& the creator's) opinion but Terra -> Ven -> Aqua is the way to go. But the playthrough order is optional for a reason! Choose whichever one you like first :)
Hollow Knight
Hollow Knight
If you feel like the combat is tough: play defensively! Watch the attack patterns closely, listen to sound signs & try to adapt. Only heal when you KNOW you have time to heal. Go on the defense and find safe opportunities to attack, instead of throwing yourself on enemies as soon as you think you see an opening. Aggressive attacking is fun when you've built up the skill for it, but it's a quick way to die if you haven't gotten used to the combat rythm. Don't panic when you have little health!
Yume Nikki
Yume Nikki
- Have fun & explore! Don't get frustrated about not doing "progress". Explore as much as you can, stumble across Effects along the way, see where the doors take you. Go in with a curious mindset and let yourself roam around for a couple of play sessions. And when you finally feel like you've explored all that you can and you feel satisfied, look up a guide & get the last effects you've missed (you can drop the effects off in the main door room later to finish the game).

- Madotsuki is very slow, so get the bike effect first to make the exploring a bit easier! (take the purple-red door on the bottom right from the main door room and it'll be there somewhere, in the big looping room with the colourful tiles)
