The Game Awards - 2023

The Game Awards is an annual event I love. Not only for the reveals, but for the celebration of this medium and those within it. This list will include game reveals and all the game-related awards given (and my thoughts on them). (And also all NEW trailers for the games we've already seen, but I will preface this in the notes section).

My thoughts on this year's Game Awards... ugh, I'm fucking devastated. A complete fucking shit-show. What a frustrating, disrespectful, and plainly boring show. This is saddening to say because I was so excited for The Game Awards this year, only for it to the worst one I've seen in at least five years. Heaps and heaps of issues/problems.

Firstly, the obvious—rushing developers off the stage with a disgusting "Please wrap it up" teleprompter after giving them 30 seconds to speak before blaring music over their speeches. This is horrible. I thought this was an award show to celebrate this medium and the people within it that work so hard to give us brilliant games? Like what the fuck? And doing it DURING Neil's speech when he was talking about some very serious issues... feels wrong... because it is wrong. I don't care if you have to make the show 15 minutes longer to accommodate for the speeches, do it Geoff; because that's the whole reason MANY people tune in for in the first place. There's also the problem of some awards being brushed over and not given any time at all. Why are some categories lumped together and gotten over with in a few seconds? There was two occasions when Geoff awarded four categories within seconds of each other. That's EIGHT whole awards completely skipped over. Sea of Stars wins best indie game and they don't even get to go on stage? Why? Best RPG, no speech. Best action, no speech. Best art direction, no speech. It's just weird.

And that sort of links in with another major problem which is that celebrities/Kojima take up so much time. So instead of giving developers enough time to give a speech, they decide to throw in a handful of different token celebrities to present awards while taking up as much time as possible. Where's the music for them Geoff? Where's the teleprompter telling them to wrap it up? Developers get 30 seconds while Simu fucking Liu gets to talk about his broken leg for 40 seconds, on top of actually announcing a game. It's such a joke. Like I get it, having celebrities attend is fun, cool, whatever, and it's fine to have celebrities, but not at the expense of the devs. There's many instances of this; Simu Liu, Anthony Mackie, Matthew McConaughey (he was fine), etc. On top of that, Kojima gets 8+ minutes to present a game that has no gameplay whatsoever... like yeah, Kojima is pretty cool—but again, why is he getting so much time? Oh right, because Geoff has a massive hard on for him.

There's also the dumb—cringe-worthy jokes, the ads—oh my god the fucking ads. So. Many. Ads. Am I crazy or has it never been this bad? And also not acknowledging the lay-offs? Man, like come on... why is that so hard to do?

And finally the reveals. I know that over the years, this is what The Game Awards has basically become. It's the show about reveals. I've seen people on Twitter talk about how the ONE thing this year's show had were the awesome reveals... and I'm leaning in the completely opposite direction. Obviously this will just depend on your taste in games and what you find interesting/intriguing. But me, personally—I found nothing interesting, except for maybe two or three new reveals? It's funny because coming off of last year's show I could've named like 10-12 games that I was actively looking forward to. This year? Blade. That's it. And even that was a cinematic trailer that showed little to nothing. There were so many token anime games that all looked identical, a few mobile games, quite a few trailers for games that were already announced, so those basically served as release date confirmations + a new look at some gameplay. Like I swear I've seen three or four trailers for The Rise of the Ronin at this point, same with Wukong. It's all weak. Nothing really stands out.

The only positive things I have to say are that I liked some of the musical performances, stuff like that is unique and entertaining to watch. Oh and Christopher Judge's joke was actually fucking hilarious??? He really said his speech last year was longer than this year's CoD campaign. I love this man so fucking much. Oh and actually, his speech last year wasn't LONG ENOUGH. GIVE ME LONGER SPEECHES GEOFF FUCK.

So yeah, those are my thoughts. Now for the games.

Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3
Game of the Year:

Absolutely deserved. Haven't played this but I've heard... an unprecedented amount of praise. I desperately need to pick this one up soon. A rare look at a game that pushes the industry forward in a really big way. I hope other RPG's take note and put in as much effort as Larian Studios have with this one.
Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3
Best Performance:

Haven't heard much from Neil but I absolutely believe it judging from the bits I have seen. My personal pick would've been Yuri since I genuinely believe that his voice acting in Spider-Man 2 is some of the best in the industry. Just a powerhouse of an actor, and he delivers a gut-wrenching performance in that game. But I'm totally fine with Neil winning this one, there was A LOT of competition this year.
Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3
Best Community Support:

Also completely deserved. The amount of patches they constantly bring is massive. Just recently they updated the game with an epilogue chapter that brings around 3500 new lines of dialogue? Peak. There's nothing like it.
Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3
Best RPG:

No competition here really. Sea of Stars and maybe Lies of P are worthy contenders but there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that Baldur's Gate 3 would win this one. Why is Starfield on here? zzzzzzzzzz
Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3
Best Multiplayer Game:

I can't imagine how fun this game would be with friends—seeming as that's sort of the whole point of DnD. So again, no surprise.
Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3
Players' Voice:

This category was very largely rigged with Genshin Impact being here... I'm pretty sure someone literally hired/paid a bunch of people to vote for it? Cringe. Glad Baldur's Gate 3 took it home.
Alan Wake II
Alan Wake II
Best Game Direction:

Another one that is 100% deserved. It's funny how Baldur's Gate 3 pushed the industry forward within the RPG genre, Alan Wake II definitely does the same with its narrative and its overall direction. Jaw-dropping visuals. Unique live action segments. Haven't played this one but I've seen a decent amount of it through videos and yeah... very deserving. This was my pick too.
Alan Wake II
Alan Wake II
Best Narrative:

Personally I voted for CP 2077: Phantom Liberty on this one. But again, can't complain. Very deserving. The narrative is its most appealing aspect and I want to play it once it comes to steam (hopefully soon). All the other nominations are solid too, although I believe Spider-Man 2 doesn't even belong on here.
Alan Wake II
Alan Wake II
Best Art Direction:

My pick was Hi-Fi Rush, but Alan Wake II is completely valid too. CP 2077 level visuals here honestly, stunning fucking game in every facet.
Forza Motorsport
Forza Motorsport
Innovation in Accessibility:

I for sure thought SF6 was going to win this one with its very unique and appreciated "modern controls" thing. I've seen that FM does a lot crazy shit with its settings; like having options for blind people? That's insanely cool, and I hope it sets a precedent for future games. So in my book, definitely deserved.
Forza Motorsport
Forza Motorsport
Best Sports/Racing Game:

Not really surprising at all. I've heard very mixed things about all the other nominations.
Final Fantasy XVI
Final Fantasy XVI
Best Score/Music:

Yeah this one's not surprising. Lots of grand and epic themes. My personal pick was Hi-Fi Rush, I love the music in that game a lot.
Hi-Fi Rush
Hi-Fi Rush
Best Audio Design:

There wasn't much competition here. Hi-Fi Rush does a bunch of insanely cool things with audio and the beat of its music. I wanted Dead Space to win though because I believe that game has some immersive sound design. Incredible stuff, either way.
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
Best Action Game:

I personally don't like Armored Core all that much. My pick was Hi-Fi Rush yet again. It's surprising to see Dead Island 2 here though. After 9+ years worth of delays, it's nice that they're at least recognized for finally putting that game out. (still not on steam which is annoying)
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Best Action/Adventure Game:

My pick would've been Jedi: Survivor. I think that game does a great job at mixing combat with exploration in a way that's really rewarding and fun to play. I'm aware Zelda has some great open world game design, but it doesn't really strike me as anything special (unpopular take, I know).
Street Fighter 6
Street Fighter 6
Best Fighting Game:

I have no opinions whatsoever on this one. Fighting games aren't my thing. From the amount of hype Mortal Kombat 1 had, I'm surprised it didn't win.
Cocoon
Cocoon
Best Debut Indie Game:

I've heard almost nothing about this one, but it definitely has a really great visual aesthetic. Apparently people think Pizza Tower got snubbed? Don't know though.
Sea of Stars
Sea of Stars
Best Indie Game:

I wanna play all of these nominations at some point, but Sea of Stars is absolutely deserving. Looks incredible, along with all of the other noms.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Best Family Game:

No surprise here. Mario wins best family game?!!? No way! Cool platformer.
Pikmin 4
Pikmin 4
Best SIM/Strategy Game:

I don't know any of these (apart from CS2). Apparently it's pretty good though.
The Last of Us Part I
The Last of Us Part I
Best Adaptation:

There's really no competition here. The Last of Us was an absolute masterpiece. Incredible sets. Phenomenal performances. Great action and cinematography. I could go on and on, but it's one of my favourite shows of all time (and I haven't even played the game!) Episode 3 was something else man... dare I say one of the best episodes of television ever made. Had an emotional breakdown after it, I legitimately had to recover from it LOL
Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077
Best Ongoing Game:

A lot of controversy surrounding this one since CP 2077 isn't really an ongoing game in the usual sense? I think personally, it should've won a different award that celebrates comebacks—even though that would be a useless fucking category, but it does seem a bit weird that they get an award for "fixing" their game that should've been in this state at launch. No shade though, genuinely impressive stuff and it's great to see devs not give up on their games, but it just shouldn't win an award for it. All the other noms were a lot more deserving.
Resident Evil Village
Resident Evil Village
Best VR/AR Game:

I don't know how GT7 didn't win this one. VR and racing go hand in hand so well. Maybe horror does too but I honestly don't know.
Tchia
Tchia
Games for Impact:

I need to play this one. Looks very wholesome and heartwarming.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Most Anticipated Game:

Not entirely sure how this category works... where is Hollow Knight Silksong? GTA 6? Maybe it's for games that have only been "officially" announced with trailers and stuff? But that would still make no sense considering Silksong was announced four years ago. Weird. Throwaway category imo.
Valorant
Valorant
Best Esports Game:

Who doesn't love Valorant??? I'm joking. Fuck Valorant.
Honkai: Star Rail
Honkai: Star Rail
Best Mobile Game:

I don't play mobile games. It's an anime game. It probably has all the popular trademarks of every gacha game ever made. Boring.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake
I haven't played the original, but this will probably be the definitive way to experience the game in the future. And I'm always a fan of brotherly bonds as a central theme in games ahem Life is Strange 2.
Pony Island 2: Panda Circus
Pony Island 2: Panda Circus
This looked like an interesting one. I really like the art direction with the array of different styles for separate sections of the game. Looked cool. Plus sorta creepy?
The Rise of the Golden Idol
The Rise of the Golden Idol
Not much to say about this one as the trailer didn't really show anything. But it looks like some sort of detective/mystery game with a unique art style, so I'm intrigued.
Usual June
Usual June
Cool music. VERY simplistic art style, definitely not a looker. I liked the story elements more-so than the brief combat showcase.
Arknights: Endfield
Arknights: Endfield
Looked like a very generic "anime" game. I don't like these at all. Voice acting is eh, too.
The Matchless KungFu
The Matchless KungFu
A hodgepodge of different genres and mechanics. Base building, MMO RPG, 1v1 duels, etc. Looked rough, like one of those old MMO web browser games.
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
(NEW TRAILER) A turn-based Warhammer game. I haven't played a single game in this entire franchise—despite them dipping their toe into every genre imaginable. I assume it looks great to fans of the franchise, not my thing though.
Assassin's Creed Nexus VR
Assassin's Creed Nexus VR
(NEW TRAILER) I don't have VR. Looks alright. I like the idea of them continuing the story of these characters even if it's in a VR game. This does look pretty fun though, mainly the parkour as I'm curious how it controls and feels but yeah... maybe one day.
Harmonium: The Musical
Harmonium: The Musical
An interactive musical? Not honestly sure, but it looks cute. I'm clearly not the target demographic for this one.
Windblown
Windblown
From the creators of Dead Cells. I don't particularly like the look of this one. Dead Cells is a gorgeous game, while this one looks a lot more generic. I liked the animation segments though!
Thrasher
Thrasher
This didn't show much. I don't even know what this is... I have no thoughts. Trippy? Unique... I guess? Idk.
Persona 3 Reload
Persona 3 Reload
(NEW TRAILER) I've never played Persona. I plan to one day. Not sure if I'll like it seeming as it's not my type of game.
Dave the Diver: Dredge
Dave the Diver: Dredge
Cool little crossover. Two games I desperately want to play, and them crossing over is nice since they're both incredible, apparently—and are all about water! So it works.
World of Goo 2
World of Goo 2
This one is a pretty big deal apparently? I don't think I've ever even heard of the original so I don't know... looks weird. I'm not that interested.
Metaphor: ReFantazio
Metaphor: ReFantazio
(NEW TRAILER) Another Persona styled game. Not a fan.
Exodus
Exodus
Matthew McConaughey's game. Looks like a pretty generic shooter but I like the setting I guess? Not enough to get me excited.
God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla
God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla
A rougelike minigame DLC for GoW Ragnarok. Not particularly interesting, I've had my fill of this game's combat in the main game alone. It's free though, so that's cool.
Big Walk
Big Walk
The music gives me really weird A24 vibes for whatever reason, which doesn't match anything onscreen lol, but cool party game.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
(NEW TRAILER) I'm actually looking forward to this one. I played the original trilogy when I was younger so getting another one in this franchise is neat—even if they're not at all the same. I also just like 2D platformers.
LEGO Fortnite
LEGO Fortnite
(NEW TRAILER) Fortnite really be doing anything and everything huh? Basically Minecraft, except LEGO. I don't like these anymore.
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II
(NEW TRAILER) I haven't played the original but it's another one that I really want to. Great visuals, immersive sound-design—and some of the best in the industry dare I say? Just an overall intriguing franchise. Very cool!
Kemuri
Kemuri
Gorgeous CGI trailer. But it doesn't show much so no thoughts.
No Rest for the Wicked
No Rest for the Wicked
Beautiful visuals and a really interesting setting. I like this one a decent amount.
Jet Set Radio

I'm looking forward to the Crazy Taxi remake, since it's the only one I've ever played. And all the other ones look fun too—a welcome surprise!
Shinobi

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero
(NEW TRAILER) I don't like fighting games at all, but apparently a lot of people liked this trailer. Didn't do anything for me.
The Casting of Frank Stone
The Casting of Frank Stone
Another CGI trailer so I can't really tell what it's about. But it's from the creators of Dead by Daylight so that's a good sign, I think? Looks pretty cool.
Visions of Mana
Visions of Mana
Another one of these. This one actually looked pretty good at times, but I'm still not getting it, like ever.
Rise of the Ronin
Rise of the Ronin
(NEW TRAILER) I've seen at least three trailers for this game already. It's from the creators of Nioh if I'm not mistaken. It looks alright. Cool setting and potentially good movement?
OD
OD
A Kojima game... I bet most people really loved this one... I didn't. Spent 8+ minutes on nothing. Showed literally nothing substantial. AND IT WAS 8 MINUTES.
Jurassic Park: Survival
Jurassic Park: Survival
I'm assuming it's a Jurassic Park survival game... as it's literally the name of the game. I don't like survival games that much, didn't do much for me. BUT THAT ICONIC ASS THEME NEVER DISAPPOINTS.
Rocket Racing
Rocket Racing
(NEW TRAILER) Another Fortnite project. I like it, although I'll probably never play it. The racing itself looks visceral and hectic which is unique and interesting.
Black Myth: Wukong
Black Myth: Wukong
(NEW TRAILER) I swear the first trailer for this came out 3+ years ago... fucking wild. It looks alright. Although I find a lot of the visuals sorta weird. I don't like a lot of the effects.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
(NEW TRAILER) I have a lot of thoughts on this one... oh man—so many thoughts in fact that I think I could write an entire review! But some of the main points:
- The creators of the fucking Arkham trilogy making a live-service cash-cow looter-shooter is perhaps the most disappointed I've ever been after getting more information about a game after its reveal?
- It looks like the most generic, PS3/360 game I've ever seen. Big purple weak points! Hordes of enemies in a big empty city! Battle pass! Stats!
- Not to mention the fact that these characters barely even resemble themselves. Captain boomerang doesn't use... boomerangs? Wow! King Shark uses a minigun? Wow! Harley Quinn flying around the city like Spider-Man? Wow! Fuck Rocksteady for this absolutely disgusting and pathetic attempt at a Suicide Squad game. I don't even care if it has cutscenes and actual story elements, everything else completely ruins those aspects. I can't believe how hard they fell off, it's honestly not even surprising considering how pretty much everyone that worked on the Arkham trilogy has left the company. It's not the same anymore.
- Oh and it looks like shit! Visuals aren't even close to Arkham Knight... a game that came out 8 years ago!
Warframe: Whispers in the Walls
Warframe: Whispers in the Walls
(NEW TRAILER) Warframe DLC. Grinding. A lot of grinding.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden
(NEW TRAILER) I'm excited about this one. It's rare to see DONTNOD do something so drastically different. I'm glad they're keeping the choice aspect, which should lead to an interesting story—since they don't miss with those. Plus combat! Very cool!
Ready or Not
Ready or Not
(NEW TRAILER) Version 1.0. I heard it's fun.
Tales of Kenzera: Zau
Tales of Kenzera: Zau
My favourite aspect of this reveal was the speech beforehand. So real and emotional. I'm going to support this game purely because of that, plus it actually looks pretty unique.
Lost Records: Bloom & Rage
Lost Records: Bloom & Rage
Another DONTNOD game! Looks intriguing. I'm wondering if they'll keep the choices.
The First Berserker: Khazan
The First Berserker: Khazan
A soulslike. I don't play many of these at all. Definitely a unique art style though, never seen one quite like it.
Honkai: Star Rail
Honkai: Star Rail
(NEW TRAILER) Anime game. BAD BAD BAD BAD
Skull and Bones
Skull and Bones
(NEW TRAILER) I don't believe that this game will ever come out. I don't believe it, nope! It's been delayed about 10+ times. But if it does, it will be shit. I have no faith whatsoever in this. Why didn't Ubisoft just make a Black Flag sequel??? Need that remake ASAP.
Marvel's Blade
Marvel's Blade
The one game I'm really excited about. I need to see more though... It's a CGI trailer so there's not much to go on. I just hope it's actually good, and not like Deathloop (that was shit). Also, there better be blood and gore! Fuck, I just realized this won't come out till probably 2026+... oh my god.
Last Sentinel
Last Sentinel
Another CGI trailer, but one that was really cool. Such beautiful animation. I want to see more of it.
The First Descendant
The First Descendant
For a second there I thought this was the next Death Stranding game based on the environment... but apparently not. Not sure whether this was in-game, maybe cutscenes? looked alright though.
Zenless Zone Zero
Zenless Zone Zero
Bad.
Mecha Break
Mecha Break
Not for me. Looks like Armored Core, although not really? Idk
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II
(NEW TRAILER) Eh, not my thing again. Looks fun with friends though.
GTFO: The Final Chapter
GTFO: The Final Chapter
(NEW TRAILER) Never played this. Nice atmosphere.
Den of Wolves
Den of Wolves
CGI trailer. Cool. I like the voice acting and the general story premise.
Exoborne
Exoborne
ANOTHER FUCKING CGI TRAILER. LOOKS OK. NO THOUGHTS.
Asgard’s Wrath II
Asgard’s Wrath II
(NEW TRAILER) VR game. Nice visuals.
Light No Fire
Light No Fire
Hello Games' next game. I only played No Man's Sky once, which was near its release. It sucked, wasn't fun. I'm aware of the comeback story and I'm really happy for them and with the amount of praise they've received. But this doesn't look like much of anything. Procedural games mostly suck, and I hate the concept of it. It does literally nothing for me. Sean is so cool though, I love that guy
Stormgate
Stormgate
An RTS game. I don't like this genre.
Final Fantasy XVI: Echoes of the Fallen
Final Fantasy XVI: Echoes of the Fallen
I need to play the base game for sure, something I'm looking forward to. Cool looking expansion.
Final Fantasy XVI: The Rising Tide
Final Fantasy XVI: The Rising Tide
I need to play the base game for sure, something I'm looking forward to. Cool looking expansion.
The Finals
The Finals
(NEW TRAILER) I've played this game a couple of times. It's unique in a way. Cool destruction. It's nothing special though and I don't see it becoming as popular as other big multiplayer games.
Monster Hunter Wilds
Monster Hunter Wilds
Apparently this one is a really big deal. I don't get it. This franchise doesn't look fun to me.

Couple of things I'd like to note: my running assumption is that the Most Anticipated category is less broad; in specific, targeting games set to release in the following year. If games like GTA VI were allowed to be nominated, even though they're years out, it's entirely possible that it would not only overshadow all of the other nominations, but that it would do so for more than one consecutive year. Although I have a lot of thoughts on the overall integrity of the showcase as an awards show (Josef Fares was wrong), such a thing would go against the intended spirit.

One of the reasons World of Goo 2 is a big deal is because the first game was one of those formative undies: it released at a time in which it was ass difficult to get your game on Steam unless you were rich, lucky, or special. It was also part of the first big wave of downloadable console titles (in specific, it released on the Wii). I'm assuming many have nostalgia for it for that reason alone.

Damn it I edited my comment and it still says undies lmao

You know what I meant. I'm not doing it again.

Yeah I would assume most anticipated are games with set release dates coming next year. It is a throwaway category tbh, it doesn't feel important at all but I think its chill.

Acessibilty: Yeah Forza goings fucking insane with that shit. Forza Horizon 5 just added fucking HAND SIGNS for all like main story missions. Like a little video pops up of someone handsigning. I don't how much needed that is over subtitles, but its still insanely good.

Big Walk: I think the music is pretty fitting with the Solid Color objects shown. The Utopian Virtual-esque music kind of fits with those minimalist, almost corporate, art style.

The Casting of Frank Stone: That game is made by Supermassive (who made Until Dawn/The Quarry) in the DBD universe. Seems weird to me.

Jurassic Park: I'm thinking the Jurassic Park game is gonna be a Alien Isolation type beat? God I didnt even think about it being a survival game but that would kind of make sense and also suck. Ark already exists.

Suicide Squad: I think it's a little unfair to hate on Rocksteady itself, maybe some of the higher ups in that studio are pushing it, but I hear they wanted to make a Superman game and Warner Bros. forced them to make a GaaS.

Skull and Bones: I hear that the game has to come out because they got a subsidie from Singapore and are gonna be in legal trouble if they don't. Its very funny.

I have no idea where these likes came from, how do you guys find lists on this site???

@Yultimona That makes a lot of sense, for some reason I didn't even think of that but yeah it'd be unfair because Rockstar winning it every single year would make the award redundant and feel pointless. I've heard of the infamous Josef Fares clip but only just saw it, and I gotta say I found it pretty funny. What are you referring to when you say he was wrong? And I had no idea World of Goo was that special of an... undie lol, but I get why so many people are excited about it now. And waiting 15 years for a sequel is certainly a long ass time.

@Snigglegros Yeah it's definitely a category of all time, I don't want it removed or anything but it's like in the bottom 3 in a list of the most interesting categories.
Forza is doing it DIFFERENT man like holy shit, the amount of accessibility stuff is insane... need every AAA game to be like them fr
Yeah I guess that makes sense, personally I was waiting for something horrific to happen because the music just gives it that creepy ass vibe if you know what I mean, and it was shocking to see that it was just a friendly, wholesome party-like game? I got whiplash from that shit lol but it defo looks fun with friends.
For a second there I confused Supermassive with Massive Entertainment (the ones that made The Division, more recently Avatar, and the upcoming Star Wars: Outlaws) and I was hyped because they usually nail the visuals, but shit—I wasn't really a fan of UD/TQ, I mean UD was good but it wasn't amazing, and TQ was abysmal in MANY aspects. I'm holding out hope though because I do like the DBD universe.
Jurassic Park Survivor being an Alien Isolation type-thing would make a lot more sense than a survival game, since we did see the player running from dinosaurs in what seemed to be dynamic events so that's probably the right bet, so hoping for that—but yeah, I don't want a survival game because I REALLY dislike that genre. I haven't played Isolation but I have heard really good things about it—like one of the best horror games oat type-good.
The SS comment did come off as a bit harsh... I do admit. But I can't stand such an incredible studio wasting their talent by making a live service game that will almost definitely be dead and forgotten about in a couple of years. There is no way that game comes out as successful... And the whole Superman thing, I thought was very old news? Like after Arkham Knight-old news. I believe they wanted that to be their main project after but the higher ups thought it didn't look good enough/wasn't feasible as a superhero game. But either way, they haven't made a game in 8 years and when they finally do it's such an OBVIOUS cash-grab, and that is so frustrating to me.
The whole Skull and Bones thing is hilarious, because after all the delays and clear mismanagements it actually has been getting fairly positive reviews from people which is so unexpected. The fact that they're legally obligated to release it now is even funnier lol. No idea how a game of its scope even gets so mismanaged. Doesn't seem all that ambitious to me unless it was originally pitched as a fully fledged open world pirate sim, and then got watered down to a ship game. So weird.

@tox I found this using the Lists link on the Tales of Kenzera game page.

@phoney Oh right. Completely forgot you can do that. I desperately need a dedicated page for lists though, that's a huge missing feature.

It was a complete F%^&ing s%^tshow indeed. my friends and I were watching it and we couldn't help but be shocked, appalled, and most of all doesn't even touch the many things that plagued the industry like layoffs and mass studios closing. Many times how the music came on to "wrap it up" for the awardees. I wanted to hear more from Abubakar Salim with immaculate drip, Sam Lake and his wonderful performance, Neil Newbon heartfelt and powerful lines, Aonuma's unsaid words he probably would've said without being told wrap it up and among others with the most egregious being Swen who was talking about the dev's who passed away during development. Let the man in armor get his words in!
.
Anyway, great to see your thoughts on a list like this. Now for the good stuff.
.
- YESSSSSSSSSSS BLADE. And by Arkane Lyon. not by the arkane austin who worked on redfall. That trailer shocked me to life. Yes there's a movie coming out, but oof idk if we'll see that first or the game lol. But man a Blade game by Arkane feels like a perfect recipe and I am beyond excited!
- Skull and Bones i'm kinda still in disbelief the game is coming from dev hell similar to how Dead Island 2 came about. But im glad its here so ubisoft can focus on other big projects delayed like ummm beyond good and evil 2 for the fans!?? Although I haven't played it yet.
-Exodus, beyond the McConaughey I think is going a bit underrated in terms of what's behind the scenes. When some bioware dev's left after the Mass Effect days. Some notable people who handled the series formed to create Archetype Entertainment. Archetype being the studio with the Bioware devs here making Exodus. Since Larian tried to make the old bioware dev's proud aka with BG3. Then Exodus could be our next big RPG from a studio with talent among avowed, clockwork revolution and more for Crpg's in the future.
- Last sentinel I really like the setting, just need more gameplay to see what its all about.
- Brother's a tale of two sons remake - looks awesome! Played the original so long ago and it paved the way for my love of indies. So seeing a remake took my breath away. Definitely recommend playing it.

@tox I was referring to him saying "Fuck The Oscars"

I'm not going to get into why I think it's a wild take to have, but safe to say, I genuinely hope the man was joking lmao

Also, on how people find these lists, it tends to be one or two things. As mentioned previously, people find them under certain games. But also through the Activity page; if you follow someone, anything they like or comment on is there. I'm not going to say that the Activity page makes up the bulk of traffic on this website, but I would be lying if I didn't say that I found content on this website through the comments of others.

@Yultimona I don't have many opinions on the Oscars, so I don't really understand why but that's fair enough dude! And yeah I use the activity page for certain things too, but I hate how you can't see "popular lists", "recent lists" or general stuff like that without searching very specifically through the search bar, or through the activity page which again—is just too specific. Definitely hope the legend himself MrProg adds a whole page for it sometime soon.

@Detectivefail I'm glad we're in complete agreement man! And Abubakar Salim's drip was seriously insane, along with Swen. Two of the best outfits I think I've ever seen for The Game Awards. I didn't mention it but Swen's speech cut-off was like you said—especially rude, because he was talking about some very serious issues, and it made me genuinely angry because it's just plainly fucking weird to cut him off.
- Blade was a HUGE one. I for one wish it was Arkane Austin developing it though, because I think they have a better track record given their acclaimed Dishonered series, whereas Lyon if I'm not mistaken have only made Deathloop—which I thought was a bit weak judging from the numerous reviews I watched (I haven't played it, but might as well have since I've watched a lot of content on that game). I'm very cautiously optimistic for the game though! and the movie! Although that one's looking worse and worse every week judging by how many issues production has had.
- It reminds me of Dead Island 2 too, although something tells me S&B is gonna be received worse... Beyond Good and Evil 2 looks a lot like Star Citizen, two games I believe will probably never "fully" come out unless there's some solid confirmation.
- I didn't know that but it definitely makes me a bit more excited for it. And omg Clockwork Revolution looks SO FUCKING GOOD!!! that's one that I'm REALLY excited about considering it gives me such strong Bioshock vibes (and I adore any game that even remotely does that)
- CGI trailers make it really hard for me to get excited, but that one looked so cool. And since it's a narrative focused, open world action game—I'm hoping it resembles the trailer in terms of gameplay, even just a little.
- I really love how everyone has that one game that made them fall in love with indies, and I'm glad Brothers was able to do that for you! For me it was Enter the Gungeon, a much less narrative focused game and more gameplay oriented—but still, it really showed me how much variety there was within that space. And Brother's is on my wishlist! I'll probably pick up the remake when it comes out.

- Ah true true i forgot about Arkane Austin’s track record. I hope it'll be good! And yea the movie production troubles is a cause for concern oof.
- The bioshock vibes for clockwork revolution are hitting off all the charts indeed. I need to make time to play the series. Never played any yet lol.
- Oh wow I didnt know Enter the Gungeon was yours! I’ll grab a copy once its on sale to try it out.

@Detectivefail WHAT??? YOU'VE NEVER PLAYED A BIOSHOCK? It's one of the best trilogies of all time (imo) and should ABSOLUTELY BE A TOP PRIORITY those three games are so close to perfection it's insane! I can almost guarantee you'll love them—or at the very least one and three. And you should definitely check out EtG! I don't think it's for everyone but it's really addictive for sure.

Yeah I agree with a lot of your sentiments. I don't even watch them live with how much time is given to ads and throwing the devs off the stage for Geoff's celebrity friends was even more lame this year. Also all that time talking about OD in vague terms and having nothing else to show except my fav Jordan Peele...

Outside of that, I thought this year's was fine. A few cool things like Persona 3 Reload's new trailer, more info and release dates on Metaphor Refantazio, Black Myth: Wukong, and Rise of the Ronin. New DBZ fighting game looks dope though I still have doubts given the recent games. Blade is a cool reveal that might not be out for years like that Wonder Woman game. Sega had the coolest reveals with their new entries/remakes/reboots for several of their dormant IPs; I've only played JSR and Crazy Taxi but I'm so hyped for what all the projects end up being and what else Sega has cooking. I would've been hyped for the FFXVI dlc months back but I feel kinda whatever towards the game now unless they are adding significant stuff to the combat and enemies.

I feel like this year was missing like a huge high profile reveal that pulled me, outside of Sega's reveals, and I feel like Monster Hunter Wilds was supposed to be like that since it was the last reveal but ehhhh. I low key agree about Monster Hunter. I played Rise last year since hunting and facing off against giant creatures with goofy weapons sounds cool, but I went through the main campaign once and haven't picked it back up since. The game seems more fun playing with people versus solo, but idk. Still gonna check out the others games.

@sleepytitan I can't blame you for not watching them live, the only reason I do is because it's an event and I fear I'll miss out on a bunch of cool stuff if I don't tune in. Jordan Peele was a nice surprise given how much I love his first two movies, but it was disappointing that all that time was essentially used for a "motion capture" trailer that showed nothing, on top of Kojima saying nothing too. I'm glad you found a decent amount of the reveals interesting, I wish I did. Blade is definitely not getting released until 2026+, which is like... whatever, I'm so tired of these early reveals. I'm still waiting on—like you mentioned, the Wonder Woman game, but also the Iron Man one, and the Captain America/Black Panther one too. Nothing annoys me more than revealing games when they're 3+ years out. That's why Rockstar is on top with their trailers (although they instead make them for a long time, can't tell which one is worse honestly). I heard FFXVI had very middling combat, according to a few reviewers that generally align with me, so I can see why the expansions might not be that exciting. And I hugely agree with your point about a huge reveal missing! I never go into these things with massive expectations (like wanting 10 AAA games that appeal specifically to me) but there was almost nothing on the AAA narrative-focused front that weren't your typical CGI trailers. And yeah, Monster Hunter looks cool on paper, but it's plainly not my type of game so that final trailer did nothing for me—but I'll still keep an open mind towards most of these and see if they're worth picking up—especially that Last Sentinel game.
