Big Scary Houses!
There's no scarier place... than the bathroom ...
Mansions, houses and castles tend to be a good place to set a spooky adventure, and so this list will try to compile all the games that use this setting together!
I'll only count games that mainly take place in said mansion/house, so games that feature a haunted mansion but it isn't the main setting (like Vampire Bloodlines) won't count, and even games that take place in more than one mansion won't count either ( like Luigi's Mansion 2). In other words, only games that take place in one particular home and its close-by areas will count.
As always, suggestions and more than welcomed, so if you see a game that's missing on here that you think would fit perfectly, don't do not hesitate to share it!
Without further ado, let's get into it...

im guessing symphony of the night wouldn't count because of the inverted castle even tho its the same thing but inverted lol
You could probably count a bunch of Castlevania games. Aria and Dawn of Sorrow, I think. Portrait of Ruin kind of - you technically leave the castle to enter portraits, but these portraits are still in the castle.
@electrode Not me, that's for sure (I totally forgot)! Honestly that's a very fun inclusion, love to represent more older ''''horror'''' titles, I'll add it for sure. Same goes for Gone Home, and I'll take a look into What Remains of Edith Finch to see if it fits, even if it isn't scary, if it's haunted in one way or another it technically would count. Thank you so much for all of these! :D
@NOWITSREYNTIME17 Honestly, I think I'll add it! Yeah, it kinda messes with my own rule of games with more than one main mansion counting, but as you've said, the inverted castle is pretty much the same thing as the original Dracula's castle, just mirrored and with minor tweaks, so I'll add it Thank you! :)))

@electrode I'll also add all of those too then; and even if Portrait of Ruin portraits were outside the castle, if the main bulk of the game is in the main mansion/castle, then it still counts. Again, thank you!
Nightmare of Decay, Ao Oni
I'm not sure if these two are entire within one house/surrounding area, but there's the Nightmare House games (Half-Life 2 mods). Used to watch let's plays of those as a kid lol

@electrode I added all to the list, I think they fit perfectly. Once again, thank you so much!
Vampire Hunter D PS1 would be a good choice for this
@MrHoodie I'll add it right now then, thank you so much! :D
Murder house!
And maybe Tarotica Voo doo
And maybe Tarotica Voo doo
@ThinkingFella Never heard of Tarotica Voo Doo before, but I really love how it looks! It's super unique, I haven't seen a game with this style in a long time, and it also seems like it fits! I'll add both games in a moment, thank you so much! :D
I love this list!!! Does a gigantic castle count? We Were Here and We Were Here Too almost exclusively take place in one enormous castle.
We Were Here Together and We Were Here Forever are way broader and have far more set-pieces so they wouldn't work, but I think those first two games could count if gigantic castles are okay :3

@Momoka I see spooky castle as another type of scary houses and mansions, so yeah, the definitively count, as well as both of the games you mentioned! I'll add both games right away, thank you so much for the suggestions and the kind words! :DDD

Echo Night 2 mainly takes place in a mansion but the whole game takes part on land the family owns (iirc)
Also, I think Touhou Luna Nights probably counts?
Also, I think Touhou Luna Nights probably counts?
@bitterbatterdog Echo Night 2 fits perfectly! And Touhou Luna Nights also looks like it does, the game seems to be set entirely on a type of haunted mansion. I'll add both in a moment, thank you so much! :D
I see you put Control in there, Yuppie Psycho would therefore also fit. If I remember correctly The Count Lucanor from the same devs also took place in like a singular court with a spooky mansion, but it's been a while since I played so I'm not sure.
@Leszczyn Checked it and I think both fit perfectly! Thank you so much for the suggestions! :D
Aw how did someone add both monster house and ghost master... i didnt even know more than 1 person knew those games existed
OH but the witch's house, mad father, and mario and the music box fit >:D
@moschidae Everytime I'm reminded of Mario and the Music Box is one HELL of a memory unlock, super good suggestions, I'll add them all right away! Thank you so much! :DDD
There's also House (2020) and two more Layers of Fear games (Layers of Fear 2 and Layers of Fear from this year), but I only played the original so I'm not sure if they fit.
@Leszczyn Layers of Fear 2 takes place on a boat as much as I know, but Layers of Fear (2023) and House fit perfectly here! Thanks a bunch for both of the suggestions! :D

I think Gone Home would apply. Maybe What Remains of Edith Finch, but I wouldn't call that a scary house, personally.
