inspired by the upcoming release of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the fourth game in the Xenoblade Chronicles series, I decided to think about series where the fourth game is the best one of the bunch and

Atlus officially classes if... as a spin-off while Strange Journey was originally called Shin Megami Tensei IV in development so i'm goin with this one

by my twisted fucked up reckoning super mario world is in fact the fifth mario game, after super mario land, which is a lovely little game that should not be forgotten. persona 4 is not getting anywhere near this list not just because it's lame as hell but because depending on how you count, persona 4 is actually either the fifth or sixth game in that series because of the existence of If... and the Persona 2 duology.
What's Strange Journey doing here. Isn't it the 6th SMT game?

NINE is, as the title suggests, actually the Ninth game in the Shin Megami Tensei series, easy mistake to make

animal forest -> animal forest e -> animal crossing -> animal forest e+ would make e+ the fourth game, or if you wanted to merge e and animal crossing for some reason, then wild world would be the one... and if you want to be weird and only separate animal forest and then combine all gamecube ones, city folk would be fourth
