2023 Completed Game Rankings

As if I needed any more proof I play too many games

If a game was beaten in 2023, whether it was released this year or before, then its on the board. If the game was a collection of games, then the bundle will be used to avoid more clutter (with a ranking in the note). Since I think Future Redeemed is worth a placement then ALL level/story type dlc played will be on the list for consistency's sake.

I have my issues with the gameplay feel, something just felt off a lot of the time, and the colosseum team grind but that story was top notch. I almost cried
I wish we could get Hulk games of this calibur...

Battle Network might be my favorite iteration of Megaman.
Game rankings: 3>6>5>2>1>4 don't even bother trying to argue with me about it

The type of remake I prefer. The story is untouched, busted things are still busted, new content is optional and post game related etc. Its Mario RPG, what do you want me to say? Its great
Overall a solid game and we finally got a playable Daisy in a mainline game.

A game thats more than its inspiration.

Asylum>City (this collection specifically)

Asylum: The game still held up really well though I did miss some QOL from later entries. I finally did all the riddler challenges since I never did back in the original release

City: Didn't enjoy the game as much as I remember tbh. Also Azazel just didn't wanna show up which stopped my motivation to do the remaining side missions. This version also crashed on me 3 times, but at least the game autosaves generously.
You damn well know the main reason its so high is cuz SOTN is still amazing.

Game rankings: SOTN>Rondo

Its more Katamari, even if I think it felt a bit more repetitive than the first one there's still nothing else like it in this world.
A game based off OG Dragon Ball in 2009? It has music from the Budokai Tenkaichi series?! The definition of underrated
Shame the platforming beat em up parts went away towards the end and DKP liked to spam projectiles but at least that fight had a checkpoint
Ochette is now the standard for how a beastmaster job should be handled in games.

I didn't think "A musical adventure" meant literal musical

Cissnei is underrated. Also Yuffie, stop crying so goddamn much.
Mainline Kirby games outside of the recent Forgotten Land are very samey, but because of that they are a consistent baseline quality.

I don't know why I was so fixated on how the mouths were animated in this game. Also I really like Roll Casket's design.

How the fuck did an april fools day game get made with this surprising quality?
Review: https://www.backloggd.com/u/stovetop/review/729543/
I haven't played the original versions of these games in over 20 years so maybe thats why I'm not as harsh on it. Also that I just bought this version outright instead of the first release and then the expansion cuz I prefer physical releases

Game Rankings: 2>3&Chuckles>CD>1
Better than the base game. There was no good reason to deny me seeing Pyra and Morag again

The wrench is still the only weapon you need
I used to be someone who put 2 over 1 cuz playing as a big daddy and drilling people, but now I see them as equals. Its rare for me to change my opinion
In all its a mixed bag of great to good to poor games. I still think its a worthwhile release regardless

Game Rankings: 4>3>Bloodlines>1>Belmont's Revenge>Kid Dracula>2>The Adventure
General improvement. Its so much easier to pull of Misako's powerbomb, and I appreciate that cuz its THE HYPEST SHIT!
I still think Congratulations Everybody is underutilized and I am sad it got set as Lotta's theme

Game Rankings: JFA>T&T>AA
I did play the original game back in the day. I cannot believe there was a Ginyu Force reference.
They just reused the original audio from the first game, which I believe was the case for the first remake, and it had me guffawing at one turn and tugging on my collar the next.

The mid to late 2000's sure were a different time
I can see why this game is held in such high regard, and why everyone hates Xen
Generally solid though I found the epilogue outside of the final boss to overstay its welcome
I still don't get how the Crossbell duology is considered some of the best. I enjoyed CS1 and 2 more but at least I won't be AS confused for Reviere now even though I still haven't played the Sky Trilogy. I'll play those once they stop being stupid and port them to playstation or switch. I refuse to play them on pc
I was gonna say this game was worse than Mario Land 1 until the star maze music started playing
It was fun but if it wasn't part of switch online I wouldn't have bothered
A romhack that wasn't super tryhardy makes it better than most

Took me a while to warm up to this game. I think the labyrinths are a bit too long for what they are but Yuma and Shinigami are a great pair to follow. The game found its groove around chapter 2 for me and its last arc was probably its best
Despite the game being 4 spider-men, they all played differently enough to not get boring. I liked that it was all former animated series actors but I don't think the VA from "Spider-man and his Amazing Friends" is a good fit for 2099.
This game got me interested enough in Noir to grab the complete release. Thats probably the best thing a game about super heroes can do in my eyes.
Complete local saturation

This is much different compared to the original than REMake 4 is to RE4. Ada's VA still isn't very good...
I will never not call this series Yakuza

You'd think being as big of an Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction mark as I am, I would have played this eons ago.

Mindless fun but I unironically find Alex harder to control than the shopping cart that was Hulk on ps2. Why have the final boss be the mid boss again instead of that more involved one that happened 5 missions prior though?
I did not have a good experience with Rhapsody 3
Game ranking: 2>3

I initially refused to play this game cuz it went "open world". I don't regret that decision tbh but it is a fine game in its own right
Surprising more than just a sprite swap. Early Larvitar bonus points

https://www.backloggd.com/u/stovetop/review/932867/
Yes, I did only play this game to play as the not Godzilla and then proceed to use the "King" skin which is just Godzilla
I wanna know who's decision it was to not give an accessible map to the player in a game like this and give them a VERY stern talking to
Review: https://www.backloggd.com/u/stovetop/review/998257/
It does hurt me to put it this far down. Great games are still great, but the in general barebones collection is big tripping hazard. PC gamers are just big bitches as usual though with how much they've complained,. The games are fully playable with minimal issues

Fun story, dialogue, world and character designs weighed down by horrible dungeons and a very lackluster implementation of turn based combat

This is the game brainlets think of when they say "you only mash attack on the menu in turn based games"
Overall a pretty mid game but I can see potential.

Also this game can get a physical release (after fan demand btw) like 2 months but Remedy has like 3 excuses for Alan Wake 2? I don't but it, Remedy L
Not as good as base Half Life with a lot of enemy spam but it was interesting to play from the opposite side
Drillbert my beloved. You even got your own mode
I wasn't super into it, don't know when I'll get around to playing the others
The game itself was alright I guess. Coming here after playing the xenoblades kinda reduced some of its impact
What might be the most devisive game in our lifetime.

Review: https://www.backloggd.com/u/stovetop/review/674192/
Better than the base game somehow, and I only got it for $2.
I did enjoy it more than the first game but most of the problems from the first game persist with little to no fixes

Review: https://www.backloggd.com/u/stovetop/review/802369/
If it wasn't for the broken knife glitch I would have dropped this game halfway through the first dungeon
An inferior version of Persona 3 and FES as it went full visual novel. Until that remake was announced this was the only Persona 3 all those people who came in with 5 would have access to without emulation or on a ps2 proper

Review: https://www.backloggd.com/u/stovetop/review/658305/
I spent just as much, if not more, time finding keys and the doors for them as I did shooting heretics. Even if those are problems I ran into when playing stuff like DOOM it still doesn't mean its something that should carry over as much in these types of games.
I liked the story but I am somehow still surprised at gamefreak's sheer ineptitude. The were able to make a substantially smaller area somehow run WORSE than the base game. It also took until now to add an option to not have the minimap rotate, y'know like any sane person should choose.
I hate anybody who says the main series need to be like this unfun, tryhard, competitive nonsense.

They just had to make bosses tedious and had to rely on insta kills for false challenge

Review: https://www.backloggd.com/u/stovetop/review/1102178/
I never saw any JP film after World, I just wanted the Theri, it was on sale and I was in the mood to build a park
I had heard for so long how good this game was, especially for a movie title. I don't see it, I'll be honest. Its passable and the best thing about it is needing to fight a Wolverine to unlock the costume

A friend of mine said some of its elevated status came from the fact the ps360 versions had the blood/gore and there was jack shit on ps3 at the time
A downgrade in most ways from Shattered Dimensions, only saved due to dialogue written by Peter David and using the 90's TAS voice actor for Miguel who fits way better than the actor from Spiderman and his Amazing Friends in Shattered Dimensions
Downgrade from the first game in every way, even the psp version of the first one
The weakest of the Half Life 1 lot. Nothing really of note imo
This game is just a maze of subway tunnels with some barren wasteland to fill in the gaps
I heard this game was pretty good for a long time. It didn't really seem that way to me
The weakest Kirby game I have played
The only reason you'll be playing this is for the unbreakable power armor
I'm not a big One Piece fan. The game is horribly front loaded with Alabasta being easily double the size of everywhere else. The comabt is barely much of note and theres a lot of unnecessary revisiting of areas on top of being a "remember this great arc/moment?!"
This has a bunch of aspects that could have gone together well, it's just unfortunate that it is unable to come together well
Boring mmo combat type, annoying main character, non existent player character, milqutoast story and all the other characters are just as much.
Daily time waster, though sometimes people used upscaled shots which makes things harder to pinpoint than they should be

Damn pc players
They fucked it up so bad. HOW DID THEY FUCK IT UP SO BAD?!
Only reason this shit aint 1/2 a star is cuz the music is great
