Huge Fan Excited To Play Favorite Game For The First Time
Title based off of this. Games that have more cultural significance than actual fans that exist seemingly, or are beloved solely for what they represent, and not for what they are. Suggestions are open. (THIS LIST IS NOT MADE OUT OF SPITE, I JUST THINK THIS SHIT IS FUNNY, YO!)

Definitely Persona 5, original or Royal
Deus Ex Series and Panzer Dragoon Saga
We should just toss Duke Nukem on there, how many fans are there from the memes vs how many people that have actually played a Duke Nukem game. Same argument for Half-Life 1.
Persona 5 is a must on this list, a lot of "fans" watched it on youtube

One that people haven't mentioned yet and I feel aligns better with the original intention of the list: Spec Ops: The Line. Or maybe it doesn't fit because no one actually plays it after watching the 1 hour video essay?
And funnily enough, I went to look for video essays just after writing this comment, and I found out that the game has been removed from Steam and every other store by the developer, so now no one will actually play it!

Persona 5 and Metal Gear Rising are really obvious picks for this list. The entire Yakuza series too to an extent probably
Honestly Hollow Knight is the first game I thought of when I heard this concept.
Where's Touhou? Literally the definitive example of this.
So many comments, I can't possibly reply to each but I've added the stuff I'm knowledgable about enough to add. Will add a follow-up comment soon maybe giving more reasoning.
I feel like Vanquish is on here for sure

I think Splatoon series might fit. I know many people who never ever played any of the games, but know every lore detail XD
