One of the coolest games to ever be released on the Famicom! Nonlinear sandbox to explore, tons of moves to unleash, stunning inertia and water current physics ALL on a Famicom cartridge. Slowdown can be atrocious, recommend the Kunio Collection to remove that and the great localization. Best played directly after River City Ransom.
What a strange yet endearing game. It's like a platformer with adventure elements, such as quests, leveling up, and town exploration. Wonderful soundtrack, beautiful visuals, charming style, it was difficult to have a sense of direction though. I made it through a few areas before I got lost, might return to it another day...
Bayonetta at home. I imagine it works best on the PC client, but on mobile, not fun. Character designs are alright, combat is serviceable, story is throwaway. I miss that era of quick-fix mobile games or not too ambitious console style games.
The first Strategy RPG on PS1 and the first I ever finished! It’s alright, wonderful presentation beats out the meddling tactics gameplay. Poor balancing and many wasted turns just trying to get near an enemy, it is a fast paced tactics system thankfully. Orchestral soundtrack, data transfer, and FMV cutscenes all elevate this SNES style tactics rpg, I only wish it was better to play…
Absolutely gorgeous presentation, battle system and exploration are so lame! It’s a 3D DS game with a colorful anime style, looks phenomenal even with its performance dips. Battle system is this weird “ratio system” where characters take up points to unleash attacks alongside type weaknesses, it’s stupid. Exploration is linear hallways with choices in going left or right, leading to the correct path or a random treasure. You have to mark the signs yourself because there is no map in the game. Wasted potential with such a stunning visual style.
It’s Octopath on mobile devices. Its simple exploration and battle system work best on mobile, but it’s still not that good. Octopath from demo I played was a dull turn based RPG that wouldn’t end, so for this to be that, but as prequel gacha, I didn’t stick around for long.
There are some neat mechanics here, but I’d probably want to try another title in this series. Empty exploration, linear mission design, and passable story haven’t kept my interest for long. I like the tank customization a lot, it’s neat for combat and aesthetics. It’s another Vita JRPG, cel-shaded visuals are pretty good, much better than the gross Reborn remake.
Another Hunter RPG for PS Vita, this time utilizing PSO2’s combat system. It’s a fine battle system, timing button presses makes it slightly less button mashy than other Hunter RPGs. I didn’t care for the bland sci-fi story and characters, no online multiplayer is a big miss though. It’s nice that this will preserve PSO2 in the long run, but far from what I would call a “hidden gem”.

Recently, Chinese and Korean game studios have been dipping into large scale style action and RPG titles. It’s pretty cool to see these countries develop original titles that they can call their own. Xuan Yuan Sword VII is neat, but not a title that grabs my interest. It’s like The Witcher but with Chinese mythology. Follow your linear path and engage in simplish action combat. It is a looker and a decent amount of weight to combat, but I don’t think I will see it to the end.
