Revelatory Emotional Blossom
Narrative-focused games starring a young protagonist with distinct themes of interpersonal relationships and self-identity. Not a matter of 'content', moreso 'vibes'; these are commonly cited when people talk about games that were very formative to their understanding of themselves. Also threw in examples from my own experiences. Whether or not these games were 'good' formative content isn't the focus of the list (i think persona created a few Fucked Up Sickos fr fr), just whether or not they left an eye-opening impact on people's self-image as a whole.
Topics that are common to these games are:
-Fear of impending adulthood
-Loss of innocence
-The self being a product of multiple distinct personalities
-Trials, expectations and anxieties that come from teenage years
-Accepting flaws and imperfections as identity-defining beauty marks
-Introspection and communing with reality through abstract concepts
-Responding to wild emotions and traumatic experiences
-Reaching out to others, or maintaining latent friendships in changing times
-Direct and abrupt interfacing with oppressive capitalist systems
-Questions of gender expression or identity
