Games for Women
(I dont know what else to name this list)
There are very few published games that depict women in a smart, nuanced and well rounded way, and that has always been frustrating to me. I have compiled a list of every game i can verify that has a fair outlook on women as a whole and is an enjoyable experience to boot. Below are some of the guidelines i tried to follow when adding a game, but due to the nature of some of them not all may apply.
The list is also split into two sections: the first has a playable female protagonist while the second only has supporting female cast, but they are very well rounded and are safe from any sort of tropes or sex mongering.
The rules are as followed:
• game must pass the Bechdel test if two female characters can interact
• there must be no male-view sexualization or conservative undertones at all.
• the female characters in the game must have nuanced personalities that are not limited to her just being a girl plus some other trait.
• a female character can exist without being in a romantic interest with another man in the game, and are not a parent.

Shockingly I think there was only one talk between the girls about romance, and some of the character designs are a bit suspect, but noting awful from what i remember

well, because vocaloid is so vast and made by so many people it is impossible to make a singular statement if its alright or not. This is probably the best project diva game in my opinion, the in-game characters are mostly female and there is nothing perverted about the way they are shown ever (as of my knowledge) and the songs chosen aren't the worst of the worst like in megamix where they have 18 songs about pedophila and high schoolers fucking

This is, by far and wide the safest dragon quest game you can ever possibly play. There is some questionable content in the second part of the story, but only that, and it is far more palatable than any other game in the series.
The game is not written well at all but at least theres only 1 boy.
Blaze is so cool
Your protagonist is never referred to with a gender so it might be up to the players interpretation. The other lead is female though so i may as well count it

Female leads are only playable in the back half of the game but they are equally as important as chrono

This one is a bit strange as dragon age is kind of weird but i know its definitely pretty good with its female characters.

Have not played so im a bit unsure but i think it is alright, hopefully.
This one is tricky. The female characters themselves feel almost divorced from the comments made on them (by issun. frequently.) because they hold autonomy in many situations and are shown as hard working and determined, but i think most of that must be just how it was in the original japanese myths. I do not trust kamiya, i hate him actually, but this used to be my favorite game so its sort of an awkward pill to swallow.
All of zelda is more or less good but im putting the best examples on here
Can only play as another cousin in vs mode

Princess peach gets captured, yes, but its mainline mario so you can never really mess up here
It has too many characters to not pass in some capacity but watch out a bit for 90s nonsense. The story also just isnt the best.
Ace attorney never goes further than having a lady with her boobs out. But im a big fan of boobs, so let them be out i say.

@moschidae I'm the wrong person to ask for that, Cross was my first so it's one of those nostalgic childhood titles I'm afraid to revisit knowing I may not like it as much. 😭
System Shock 1 should definitely be here (not 2 though, especially because of the Cyborg Midwives and how they were created), I mean, SHODAN is one of the greatest villains in gaming, an AI that always pulls tricks on you, and so threatening even Edward Diego (which hired the hacker to remove her ethical constraints) ends up becoming an cyborg. Again, just the first, not the second because or what I mentioned before.
