My Top 100 Favorite Games

I've seen so many people do this and I thought it would be fun. I'm going to keep this updated as time goes on.

Persona 5 Royal
Persona 5 Royal
This came out at just the right time to leave a massive impact on teenage me. It helped make me more comfortable with being myself. I can't thank it enough for that. It also helps that its wrapped in the best turn-based RPG I've ever played.

1

Yakuza Kiwami 2
Yakuza Kiwami 2
The most consistently amazing entry in the series. There isn't a moment anywhere in this game that drags it down like some others. Ryuji is one of only two antagonists in the series that feel worthy to stand up to Kiryu.

2

Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
The vibe of Kingdom Hearts II is one that takes me back to being a little kid in the summer. It is a capsule of a very specific moment in time that just happens to be a fantastic Action RPG.

3

Silent Hill 3
Silent Hill 3
I love Heather. She is my favorite Silent Hill protagonist. It helps that she leads the game that is the most fun to play, while also still being fucking terrifying.

4

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
A truly generational experience with my favorite RPG party ever.

5

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - HD Edition
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - HD Edition
My favorite stealth game with a story that knocked me on my ass by the end. The fight with The Boss is an all time great.

6

Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies
Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies
Whenever I think of this game, I think back to being maybe 4 or 5, sitting in my aunt's house, and finally after so much struggling finishing the final level and how excited I was to finally do it. As I got older I was able to appreciate all the other great things about this game like the fantastic story and the amazing soundtrack, but in the end I can't help but be transported back to being that little kid at my aunt's house whenever I think about it.

7

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
This was the first game I ever had that was my own. I got it for Christmas in either 2003 or 2004 with my own PS2. Whenever I am going through a rough patch in life, I play it and immediately just feel at peace for at least the three-ish hours it takes me for a run these days.

8

Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 2
The best game in a series that I adore. It nails both the action and the horror elements of the series so well.

9

Everblue 2
Everblue 2
As someone who is terrified of the ocean, I should hate this game. Somehow though, I really, REALLY love it. Its a game I stumbled upon as a child that has stuck with me over the years.

10

Tony Hawk's Underground
Tony Hawk's Underground
After a lot of arguing with myself, I've come to the conclusion that Underground is absolutely the best Tony Hawk game.

11

Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition
Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition
Maybe it was just the place I was in at the time, or maybe it was actually that powerful to me, but the feelings I felt upon walking into the City of Tears for the first time are something that very few things have ever been able to replicate.

12

Dark Souls
Dark Souls
Somehow, Dark Souls ended up being a huge comfort game for me. Its something I like to just boot and play randomly. I played this game so much with my friend back in like 2013/2014 that I know it inside and out at this point.

13

Halo 3
Halo 3
I had to do a lot of thinking here and I came out on the other side knowing that Halo 3 is my favorite FPS game ever. It means too much to me for it not to be.

14

Metroid Dread
Metroid Dread
The best game I've ever played on my Switch, and probably my favorite Nintendo game I've ever played. Simply stellar top to bottom.

15

Final Fantasy XIV Online
Final Fantasy XIV Online
I'm only in the Heavensward patch quests right now but I absolutely adore this game. I've grown very attached to my Warrior of Light in that time, we've been through a lot together. By the time I'm caught up this could easily land in my top 10 but for now this is a good spot for it.

16

Sonic Generations
Sonic Generations
Even if I don't think Classic Sonic is all that great in this game and I hate the final boss, the Modern Sonic stages in this game are so incredible that they skyrocketed the game incredibly far up this list. City Escape in this game is maybe my favorite Sonic stage ever.

17

Doom Eternal
Doom Eternal
Incredible gunplay mixed with really fun movement abilities and a surprisingly fun story makes for the best shooter of the eighth generation.

18

Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 2 is a game that is 100% carried by its story, but you know what? Some times that's okay. The story told here is absolutely phenomenal.

19

Payday 2
Payday 2
I have spent more time with this game than most people should. I played the hell out of the 360 version with friends. Sadly that version never got any updates, but we played those few base game heists more times than I can count. Spending time with the PS4 version just solidified my feelings of this being my favorite co-op game.

20

Elden Ring
Elden Ring
While Dark Souls might be higher on this list for emotional reason, Elden Ring is 100% the best of these games. The feeling of exploration is unmatched, the combat is the smoothest its felt, and they told an actual story. I spent near 100 hours in a single playthrough and I don't regret a second of it.

21

Final Fantasy VII Remake
Final Fantasy VII Remake
This game has the best versions of these characters. I love them so much. It also has a really fun combat system with a phenomenal soundtrack and a really great story.

22

Fable II
Fable II
I love just being in the world of Fable II. Even if the combat isn't very good, and the story is pretty boilerplate, the world is just enthralling. Being able to start a family and just live in these towns is incredible.

23

Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 4
The new standard for third-person shooters. Capcom really out here redefining the genre for the second time.

24

Persona 5 Strikers
Persona 5 Strikers
A surprisingly great sequel to my favorite game. The new characters are great and I liked seeing all of the main characters after they've already been through their arcs. The soundtrack is killer, and the gameplay is surprisingly great.

25

Sonic and the Black Knight
Sonic and the Black Knight
I was surprised how much I ended up loving this game. It really is cool as shit. Before Frontiers, this was the last time Sonic was written well, and its still probably the best written game in the series. Sonic with an actual message and incredibly well performed is something we don't see nearly enough of. Give Sonic a sword again.

26

Devil May Cry 5
Devil May Cry 5
This is the best action game ever made. Not only are Nero and Dante fucking superb, V is also a hell of a lot of fun. The music is incredible, it looks insane, and it has really well told story about family. Nero saying fuck you gave me goosebumps.

27

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
DMCV may be the best action game I've played, but Revengeance is hands down the coolest game I've ever played. It just fucking oozes style. The soundtrack is an all-timer, the gameplay is incredibly fun, and the boss fights are just peak video games.

28

Silent Hill
Silent Hill
Still the scariest in the series to me. The PS1 aesthetic just adds to the creepy vibe of everything.

29

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle
I absolutely understand why people like NMH 1 more, but 2 just clicked with me in a way 1 didn't. Even if I don't think they nailed everything they were going for story wise, it came out the other side something special. Travis finally snapping at the end after realizing how fucked up everything he's been doing is might not be the best executed thing in the world, but it still landed incredibly well for me. The final boss is so fucking funny that I can't be mad at it like most people seem to be. I do agree that they kinda lost the thread when it came to Travis a bit, but it didn't really bring the story down for me. Philistine fucking bangs.

30

God of War Ragnarök
God of War Ragnarök
As much as I liked the storytelling in 2018, the combat and spectacle were both lacking. Not only did Ragnarok fix both of those problems, they also improved the storytelling in ways I didn't think they could. They somehow made a God of War game that made me cry like a goddamn baby.

31

Hitman World of Assassination
Hitman World of Assassination
An incredibly satisfying stealth game that almost dares you to find ways to break it. 3 also had some story beats that really hit above their weight and I appreciate that a lot.

32

NieR: Automata
NieR: Automata
I cried for like 20 minutes after getting ending E.

33

Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077
I came into Cyberpunk with low expectations, and came out blown away. I fucking adore this game. I love the world, I love the characters, and I actually enjoy the combat. I spent hours at the end of the game just doing side quests because I really didn't want it to end.

34

Metal: Hellsinger
Metal: Hellsinger
This is my favorite FPS game since Doom Eternal. The mixture of a rhythm game and an incredibly satisfying shooter was really fantastic. I also really love the soundtrack, its just an incredibly well produced metal album.

35

Ico
Ico
While I understand why people generally like Shadow of the Colossus better, Ico just hits harder for me for some reason. I think it might just be the vibes of the castle and I actually really enjoy just running around the castle solving puzzles.

36

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut
This was the first Deus Ex game I played and I absolutely adore it. Director's Cut fixed the boss fights so now I really don't have anything negative to say. Really great game.

37

Shadow of the Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus
Groundbreaking technical and artistic accomplishment. Even if I like Ico more, I still love this game quite a lot. That ending never fails to hit me right in the gut.

38

Marvel's Spider-Man 2
Marvel's Spider-Man 2
Insomniac reminded me why I love Spider-Man so much, and has made me feel excited about this franchise in a way I haven't been able to in years.

39

Rock Band 2
Rock Band 2
My favorite of the plastic instrument games. It has my favorite out of the box setlist, and is just a damn good time.

40

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
This is the game I always imagined Jet Set Radio would be before I actually played it. It feels and looks incredible, it has my favorite soundtrack of 2023, and the story was surprisingly fun. This was a game made specifically for me.

41

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
MGS2 is not only a great stealth game, it quite possibly has my favorite twist in a video game. Everything starting to unravel at the end is an incredible moment, and the game ends on a message that will seemingly stay relevant forever.

42

Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses
Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses
Man, I don't know what to say this game is just really cool.

43

Final Fantasy XVI
Final Fantasy XVI
I have not had something that emotionally affected me this much since Your Name. Man, Final Fantasy kicks ass.

44

The Sims 3
The Sims 3
I have spent more time with this game than any reasonable person probably should. Its my favorite of the series, and just all around a great time.

45

TimeSplitters: Future Perfect
TimeSplitters: Future Perfect
My favorite shooter of the 6th gen. Not only is it just a really great shooter, its really fucking funny.

46

Resident Evil Village
Resident Evil Village
My favorite RE story. It also has the scariest moment in the entire series. I'll never understand the hate for the first-person REs.

47

Minecraft
Minecraft
What can I say that hasn't been said already? Minecraft is just a pleasant game to hang out in. I like digging holes (:

48

Yakuza: Like a Dragon
Yakuza: Like a Dragon
A hell of an introduction to the new cast. Not many studios can handle that transition as well as they did, and the story being told alongside it is also phenomenal.

49

Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid
As the game that first shoved the stealth genre into the spotlight, it has a few things that aren't there that you would expect, but it also still works surprisingly well as just a simple and fun stealth game with a great story.

50

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
This game broke me. The ending hit me so hard it made me feel things most media can't. I have problems with the gameplay which is why its not higher, but I can't understate the impact the story had on me.

51

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown
The second the game made me dogfight with an ace pilot in the middle of a thunderstorm in a massive canyon I knew it was an all-timer. JPEG dog is peak fiction.

52

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
My favorite game in a series that means so incredibly much to me. I love Rivet and Kit, I love the gameplay, and it is still the most technically impressive PS5 game on the market.

53

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
What can be said that hasn't been already? Its pretty alright.

54

Kingdom Hearts III
Kingdom Hearts III
A very satisfying conclusion to a storyline years in the making. I cried multiple times.

55

Death Stranding
Death Stranding
I don't understand quite what it is about Death Stranding that makes me love it so much, but it really hits all the buttons in my brain. Never has walking across a mountain in a game felt more daunting of a task.

56

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Despite being much shorter than 2018, I ended up enjoying Miles Morales a lot more. The combat was a lot more satisfying and I really love Miles as a character.

57

Sonic Frontiers
Sonic Frontiers
This has my favorite writing in the series. Not only is Sonic great in this game, but every other character is written just as well, with Eggman being the biggest surprise in the cast. Mike Pollock is a hell of an actor, and his performance made me cry at the end of the game.

58

NieR
NieR
No other game could get away with making me replay the second half of it three times along with completing every side quest to see every ending. Papa Nier superiority.

59

No More Heroes
No More Heroes
Despite liking NMH2 better in almost every way, 1 has a vibe that most games can't match. Travis is such a dirtbag that I can't help but love him, and the writing is so incredible the whole way through.

60

Titanfall 2
Titanfall 2
One of the best FPS games ever made. The campaign is genuinely really incredible, somehow managing to build such a relationship with BT that I teared up when the ending happened. More games need a really cool grappling hook.

61

Ratchet: Deadlocked
Ratchet: Deadlocked
I spent so much time replaying this game over and over again while listening to the 30 Seconds to Mars album A Beautiful Lie as a teenager that the two are inseparable in my head now.

62

Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
People who hate this game are weak and should not be listened to. The perfect ending to this insane series.

63

The Last of Us
The Last of Us
The story of The Last of Us is one of the best zombie stories I've seen. In a genre so tired, they managed to have a unique take on it. I am a sucker for father/child stories, and this is one of my favorites.

64

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2
A great remake that basically invalidates the original games. I am still so incredibly, indescribably angry about how Vicarious Visions was treated by Activision.

65

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
The shift in perspective did a lot to aid in making this feel fresh, while also being a great return to form after the mess that was 6.

66

Parasite Eve
Parasite Eve
Such a unique and interesting take on the turn-based RPG. It really nails both the RPG half and the horror half.

67

Bugsnax
Bugsnax
This is one of those situations where the gameplay being overly simple works to the games benefit. Bugsnax isn't trying to be an overly challenging puzzle game, it just wants to be a chill time where you hang out with a bunch of incredibly well written characters while you solve an intriguing mystery.

68

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
This is a game that I have always needed in my life. Even in it's unfinished and buggy state, the writing and the early 2000s goth vibes really shine through in a way that hits just right. I fucking love it, man.

69

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Despite it all, this is still my favorite COD. It could be nostalgia, it could just be that the game is actually that good, I don't care. This game affected kid me in ways I wouldn't have expected it to. It was a rude awakening to how hellish war actually is, which was a lot for this kid raised in the US post 9/11.

70

Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2
They took one of my favorite games and made a sequel that is better in every way. I love Arthur as a protagonist, every member of the gang is fleshed out and made to be actual humans instead of the cartoonish husks of people from RDR. The game made me cry multiple times. I fucking love it. It needs a PS5 version already.

71

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Hands down the best Uncharted. It takes all of the great things from the PS3 games and cranks them all to 11. Its also the first game in the series to have a really great story.

72

Signalis
Signalis
While not as great as the games it is obviously inspired by, it still manages to stand on its own as an incredible survival horror game with a well told and surprisingly heartfelt story.

73

Jak 3
Jak 3
Takes the good from Jak II and throws out the bad. I have spent so much of my life playing this game.

74

Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
A really fun 3D platformer with an incredible soundtrack and fun story. While I don't love every stage, I still think the game as a whole is fantastic. People who say Sonic had a rough transition to 3D just hate fun.

75

Subnautica
Subnautica
One of the only survival games to ever get its hooks into me. Despite being terrified of the deep, I was enthralled with this game from top to bottom. It also has a surprisingly really good story.

76

Marvel's Spider-Man
Marvel's Spider-Man
Despite liking Miles Morales more, 2018 still stands up there as one of my favorite games.

77

Wolfenstein: The New Order
Wolfenstein: The New Order
A really fantastic shooter with an interesting setting and an incredibly well told story. They somehow made B.J. motherfucking Blazkowicz one of the best written and performed characters in the medium. Mick Gordon still can't miss with his soundtrack.

78

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Probably the best kart racer ever made. From top to bottom it is just pure joy.

79

Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
As of this writing I have spent around 500 hours with this game. I might not be as slavishly devoted to it as I once was, but my island really felt like a second home to me.

80

Metroid: Zero Mission
Metroid: Zero Mission
Before Dread, this was my favorite Metroid, and it's still an incredible game. Samus just feels to smooth to control. It gave us the Zero Suit so I will be forever grateful.

81

Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 2
The best of the classic style of Resident Evil. The police station is an incredibly fun setting. The bigger emphasis on action compared to RE1 I think only benefited it.

82

Pizza Tower
Pizza Tower
This is basically a perfect game to me. I don't have any real problems with it. The only reason it's so low on the list is most of the games above this are more emotionally fulfilling to me, which makes me sad because this is a genuinely incredible game that everyone should play.

83

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
Still one of the best games in the series. All of the levels are really great, and the soundtrack is killer. The only thing really missing are flatland tricks.

84

Persona 4 Golden
Persona 4 Golden
Persona 4 has problems that I think 5 really fixed, but in the end it is still an incredible game. Despite what the constant discourse around it would have you believe, it does handle some touchy subject matter really well, but it also is a game about teenagers from 2008 so some aspects are handled clumsily and Yosuke being homophobic honestly shouldn't surprise anybody.

85

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
This is the game that everyone sold Breath of the Wild as. Genuinely breathtaking.

86

What Remains of Edith Finch
What Remains of Edith Finch
What Remains of Edith Finch is one of few games that left me feeling numb by the end. The story of this family all succumbing to a "curse" that in reality was just some old woman's ramblings was heart-wrenching. At the same time, this is maybe the most creativity filled game I've ever played. What seems as first to be a basic walking sim, it quickly breaks that mold by having you play through so many incredible sequences showing how every member of the Finch family died. Between playing as a baby drowning in the bath, to an incredibly depressed 20-something who was so bored by the monotony of his job chopping off fish heads at the cannery that he lost himself in his own little world, only to end up with his own head under the blade, it makes full use of the medium in ways most games could only imagine.

87

Sonic Mania
Sonic Mania
The best 2D Sonic. It just makes me happy to play around with. The soundtrack is stellar as usual.

88

Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Running around catching Pokemon in this game was so engrossing, I just couldn't put the game down. I had so much fun with it.

89

Sky Odyssey
Sky Odyssey
This game has a vibe that I can only describe as "early PS2". It is a surprisingly deep flight game that has you completing challenging objectives in really pretty environments.

90

Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors
Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors
It gets a little lost in the weeds with it's story sometimes, but as a puzzle game it is genuinely incredible.

91

Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
One of the last campaigns in the series that felt ambitious. Having multiple endings based on choices that actually effect the story in neat ways is really cool. The zombies in this game also goes incredibly hard with Mob of the Dead being my favorite map in the series.

92

Saints Row IV
Saints Row IV
I have so much fun just running around and grabbing collectables in this game. It has some of the best traversal in an open world game.

93

Alan Wake
Alan Wake
The writing here is so incredible. Sam Lake really is one of the best in the business. The game is also a lot of fun, but not enough to bring it any higher.

94

Jak X: Combat Racing
Jak X: Combat Racing
I enjoy this game more than most Mario Karts. It feels so good to play, and has a surprisingly in depth story mode that feels like a real conclusion to the series.

95

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne
Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne
"I had a dream of my wife. She was dead. But it was alright."

96

Call of Duty: Black Ops
Call of Duty: Black Ops
I love the campaign and multiplayer in this game, but it easily has my favorite zombies mode in the series. There's just something about the simplicity of Kino Der Toten that makes it really engaging.

97

Ninja Gaiden II
Ninja Gaiden II
The video game equivalent of cocaine. It just throws so much random shit at you and expects you to deal with it. That shouldn't work so well, but the action feels so incredible that it just does.

98

Asura's Wrath
Asura's Wrath
Man Too Mad to Die: The Game. Even if the beat-em-up gameplay isn't great, there is so much cool shit here that it doesn't matter. Motherfucker stabbed through the moon.

99

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
The best 2D beat-em-up ever made. It just makes me so happy. The music is incredible, I just wish they didn't blow their load with the Wu-Tang before the final boss.
