Top 200 Unique Games on Backloggd, Single Entry Per Series

title says it all. update to some prior lists I made (though I pulled these results a couple days ago so probably already a little out of date). I played spinoff series by ear so expect inconsistencies as what counts as "single entry per series." also original version of each game, no updates. no dlc/expansions either (sorry ffxiv fans)

i guess i'm a little confused - original version of each game, you say, but that's the ds remake of dq5? also, nobody actually plays snake eater over subsistence, right?

1 year ago

@zenoslime 1) I like the snake eater cover art better 2) the dq5 remake on ds has a lot of differences over the original snes version, right? I'm pretty ootl on DQ so I may be wrong on that, I was under the impression that it was sort of on the level of the saga DS remakes but I would change it with evidence otherwise. it's dq5 either way

persona 5 royal makes the list, but the final cut of disco elysium doesn't? help

pretend I typed a shrug emoticon above and it didn't get fucked up bcs backloggd sucks

yeah, the ds version of dq5 is similar in style to ps1 dq7 and the dq4 remake (as well as the other ds remakes, of course). personally, my favorite version of dq5 is the ps2 remake, and imo the box art for that one or the sfc version is much nicer than that weirdly cropped mess for the ds version... but obviously it's your call, hehe

that's true, I'll go ahead and switch it to the ps2 remake cover art then as a happy median, it definitely looks better

@zenoslime I'm curious to hear why you like the PS2 version the best! I love the DS version just for the party chat, and I didn't play much of the PS2 version, so I wanna know what makes it different from someone who loves it - I've been considering giving it a go the next time I replay DQV.

sorry for being a nuisance!

@zeno no worries! I'm moreso kicking myself for not just saying it was sorta arbitrary up front lol

@Archagent: my replies are all out of sync because i'm on my phone in bed, lol. my preference for the ps2 mostly comes down to presentation - it's beautiful! and i'd much rather play a dragon quest laying down on the couch than hunched over a handheld. i do think the ds version is great, too, though. and so is the original, though it's much slower. in any case, a fantastic game.

@Pangburn: haha, it's all good. i understand the appeal of curation coming down to taste or whim.

@zenoslime Thank you!!!
